TSH 6.41 FT4 14.9 what does this mean
Without a reference range it is difficult to know what the FT4 really means. The reference range for FT4 varies very considerably from one laboratory to another across the country.
At a guess, you are hypothyroid.

Are you on treatment? What symptoms are you having?

Hi You need ranges as all Labs different. However, I would say that you definitely need a Free T3 test as well. if TSH high as I suspect treating with T3 ( usually in addition to T4 , levo) normally lowers the TSH and helps the weight.
best wishes,

Slightly hypothyroid possibly due to low T3 as your T4 doesn't look too bad. Would be useful to test T3 too.
Hi all sorry didn't explain my self very well have been on levothyroxine for 5 months started at 25 then 50 now 75.went for glucose intolerance test 2 weeks ago think I could have pitruity tumour and ask lady who did bloods why I still felt so ill so checked tsh as well just wondered what this reading meant.still feel ill tired worn out and my face is so puffy looks like I have a black eye on my left eye xx
Normally once treatment begins, the TSH should be moving downward toward 1.0, this will happen if you have enough T4 stored/available in order to convert to T3 which is the active part of thyroid and the part that keeps your metabolism working. If all goes right you won't gain weight, won't have palpitations, won't have foggy brain and your temperature, near normal. If this doesn't happen, you may not be on the proper dose of T4, OR you may not be converting it to T3. This in turn could build up too much T4 in your system or become reverse T3 which robs you of the good effect of T3. This is why it is so important to have ALL these tests when there are still symptoms. Guesswork is not helpful, so insist on these tests.
