Why oh why after 2 weeks on Eltroxin I felt bet... - Thyroid UK
Why oh why after 2 weeks on Eltroxin I felt better then after a further 2 weeks I went downhill again.
Hi Brenda,
Lots of people on here get this effect - not just with Eltroxin (T4) but with T3 as well, its as though your body get used to the dosage and then will demand more after a short time.
Make sure when you have your blood results you get a print out for your own records (you can also post them on here for advise but you must post the ranges as well) and if you get the normal "in range" phrase from your GP that you stress, very stongly, how ill you are still feeling. Bare in mind that your TSH should be one or under for you to start feeling anything like normal (although according to GP's this is a lot higher).
You could also have a possible conversion problem - have you had your VitD, Iron, B12 or ferritin tested as if any of these are low your body may be struggling to convert your T4 to the T3 is so desperately needs.
Hope I have been of some help.
Moggie x

If you are newly diagnosed and on medication which has to be monitored about every six weeks, it may be that you need a rise in your dose more quickly. Theoretically you should eventually take a dose of medication which alleviates all your symptoms. It is better to increase gradually.
thanks you folks on thyroid uk you are all so supportive, odd to doc next week will bear in mind what you say regards brenda
