Oh I so wish I had known about all this years ago. The Vitamin D council started in 2003 and STILL people aren't listening. Even when talking to friends and relatives about this they look at me like I'm some sort of mad person, they say yes and nod a lot and do nothing. I spend hours researching and sending papers and videos to all and sundry. I am currently trying to get them to do an item on local radio but I'm not sure how not to come across as a sandal wearing, hippy weirdo! It's an uphill struggle but we must keep on.

Wow! Really phoebs? thats amazing. Well done you! I am sure that being deficient in vitmamin D for years has affected my bones. I have terrible arthritis, and until I started taking 5000 iu a day I had pain in both of my feet for about a year! Its totally gone now .............touch wood. I am a bit like you with B12 as it has changed my life so much.

Do you supplement with vitamin k2. I have just been reading about that and feel I may need to take some

Thanks for this - tingles !

I have been told by a homeopath via vega test that my my endo prescribed Vit D is compromising my Ferrous Gluconate uptake. I am taking them at different times of day as I don't want to stop either.

Do you have any experience of using a SAD lamp as a physio suggested this may be a better way to up the Vit D.

:-)

Hi Sarah, no I haven't and my experience with Vit D is only how I feel, I keep meaning to re do my blood test with city assays and see what level it is now. I have considered going on a sunbed maybe just once a month. Guess its about balance..........dont want skin cancer! Lol x

Tingles. Yes I take K2 and have actually spoken to the Dr who wrote the book "Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox" about how K2 moves the calcium in your body from the BAD places like arteries back to the GOOD places like your bones! She also advised to take Vitamin A in the form of fish oil caps daily to complement the absorbtion.

sarahstevenson, just a note for you about the S.A.D. lamps. They do not give you Vit D. I took this from a science website, it explains all:-

The wavelengths of light emitted by lightboxes designed to combat SADs (seasonal affective disorders) are chosen to stimulate a population of cells in the eye that are not concerned with seeing but instead with setting the body clock. These specific retinal ganglion cells respond to light at about 480nm, which is present in the lightbox output.

But Vitamin D synthesis occurs through photolytic modification of skin-based 7-dehydrocholesterol to form cholecalciferol (previtamin D3), which is achieved through the action of ultraviolet wavelengths between 270 and 300 nm (UVB), which are present in sunlight and, to a lesser extent, in the UV used by tanning beds.

Therefore tanning salons, but not lightboxes, can help to boost vitamin D levels.

Hope this is helpful.
