Thanks it says above she wants me to have further tests for viruses. My lymph nodes have Been slightly swollen for a very long time and wondered if sometimes can be part of hashi's. I've looked on sttm and sure enough it's one of the symptoms patients have mentioned having before. Seeing endocrinologist in a few weeks too
Interesting, I too have Hashi's and also have swollen lymph nodes but no-one has ever tested me or told me that this could be the reason, I think I'll have to mention this to my Doctor next time I see him
Well I read on stop the thyroid madness that it can be a symptom much to my relief!! The gp is testing me for all sorts of viruses which is a little worrying hep b c HIV ....I've been married 5 years. Mine you can feel aren't symmetrical and you can they are swollen on the scan but they aren't bulging out of my neck x
I had this too, felt as though I'd been punched under my chin and under my arms also hurt. My gp said I probably just had a virus and brushed it off at the time but I now realise it was part of my Thyroid issues. It went away on it's own eventually.
I also developed a slight goitre, which I just thought was part of weight gain until my mum(who I don't see often) pointed it out - then the doctors noticed(typical). This has gone since being on T3 but a scan showed nothing at the time anyway.
Thanks for the info!! Useless some of these gps!!! I have felt a change around my glands for a very long time-they must think Anti depressants sort this too!! x
Haha, of course anti-depressants are the answer to everything! I didn't take mine but instead made the decision to try and find my own answers. After all these years finally getting somewhere.
My glands were painful/swollen for probably just over a year or so.
Hi! Perhaps your gp is checking for viruses to rule them out. In 2001 I had an enlarged lymph node in my neck for 3 years, (my thyroid had been removed in 1984.) Turned out to be something unplaesant, so go with the flow for now - she might be being good - you never know your luck!
Thanks for that schenks, I'm trying to make myself feel better by thinking it could be something innocent. Your right it may not be and it's important for me to bare this mind. As much as I am suggesting some doctors aren't the best but actually I really like the one I have right now, 7 doctors later!!
I wasn't really aware of it without palpating. The lymph node just under my jaw on one side felt rather rubbery when I pressed it - like one of those hardish balls you throw dogs. It was not hugely large, but when I lost weight I could just about see the slight bulge under my jawline, and when i felt it it was adhered to the jaw itself. I had actually noticed it 3 years earlier but just shrugged it off as a bit enlarged. I shouldn't have done. Thank God it ended well, but it taught me a lesson.
If you like this doctor, talk to her - or him - and do so without pleading or being submissive as i was. Just tell her your concerns and that you are not a hypochondriac, nor do you want to be a heart-sink patient, but that something is wrong. You like your doctor for a reason - gut instinct as much as anything else - so forge a relationship as a real person, not as a patient, if you get my drift.
All the very best,
I have the same problem.. I has arisen since I developed palpitations (Hyper!) which has since resolved - my GP actually flapped when he felt how large it was, and I was sent to a Consultant within 5 days!.. the Consultant Maxillary-Facial surgeon reckons he can't feel it though (I certainly can and so can my GP!) I have had ultrasound and been basically fobbed off... some days I can't lift my head properly, it affects swallowing a little (but it's mainly my right under-jaw area) other days it settles considerably and I barely know it's there.
TSH was very low, then a bit high, but has dropped back now, yet the swelling continues.
Knowing what I do about lymph drainage, it SHOULD NOT be making this particular node swell, if it is my thyroid, but other symptoms seem to say otherwise!
Get a second opinion. My then GP sent me to an ENT consultant - turned out to be something rather more serious. Maybe the ENT guys and gals have more sensitive fingers as they deal with soft tissue as opposed to bones, but your symptoms sound ridiculous to be fobbed-off with.
To be honest, this issue came up with what I KNOW is another thyroid issue, yet bound up in the usual TSH blindness, I look as if I am on my own with it or face trekking round to more consultants who are only too pleased to get you out of the room to wipe patient numbers off lists - it's not a game I have any intention of playing - I would have been rushing to someone else without waiting for NHS dawdling if I thought otherwise, and that's precisely what I will do if I think it is anything more sinister in the near future.
I have plenty of other pre-existing conditions that come in the same category, after all that is pretty much what everyone who is on this site also has in one respect or another, those who are fully sorted out and feeling great don't need to seek fixes!
Medicine by numbers has made an already poor system a lot poorer
