IsFloradix floravital liquid safe to take when one is prescribed levothyroxin
If you need iron (and it important that you are SURE you do), then Floradix is fine.
BUT you must make sure that you separate taking the levothyroxine and the Floradix by at least four hours, preferably six or more. Otherwise the levothyroxine can bind to the iron and might fail to get fully absorbed. (Makes effectively no difference to the much larger quantity of iron present.)
I've been using Floradix for donkeys years and, as helvella says, use well apart from thyroid meds. Yes, it's awkward but worth perservering with.
thanks for info
Hi, Afriend of mine is a Dr. She says that if your body needs iron the floradix tastes nice, and if you r body has enough iron the floradix tastes metalic, so its a useful sign to be aware of.
I've been taking Floradix for around 20 years. Of course the odd time I mentioned my tiredness, heavy periods etc to a GP, a blood test was done and told it was fine. This was all pre-thyroid.
At times I've stopped taking Floradix and ended up feeling dreadful. Did try Spatone but that did nothing.
Looking back, in hindsight, I should have obtained copies of the blood tests and challenged them. Of course I now realise that many of the GPs I've consulted with over the years were simply bone-idle.
I take my levo at night, and my floradix plus my other iron pills in the morning so they don't conflict.
