Not even tired....!

It's nearly one am and I'm nowhere near tired!! :0/ very unlike me, I'm usually dead to the world at 10.30.

Could this be too much erfa or too much nax. The doses are the same as usual and temp and pulse are the usual low recordings. No other symptoms tonight but wide a wake and a bit pumped.....

Si

I hope you managed to get some sleep last night. I have the odd night like that and, strangely, taking a small dose of NDT in the evening seems to give me better sleep so I do that now and have far fewer of those wide-awake nights. I also find if I do less during the day, I don't get sleepy until later in the evening. Sometimes if I have got mentally overstimulated in the evening I am wide awake for ages.

When are you taking your NAX and Erfa? That might give someone a clue as to what is keeping you awake.

yes I agree, most of us have nights like that, I do too.

please don't let one night now and again 'worry you'. Symptoms of overstimulation tend to be more 'consistent' then an odd night.

NAX has vitamins B in it right? you should take that in the mornings. and do try a bit of erfa at bedtime like Carolyn says x

Yes nax does have the bs in them nd. I've always taken those before 1pm!

Call me silly but won't taking erfa at bedtime make me more buzzy!

That's what I thought, and it does make some people more awake. For me, and many others, it has the opposite effect but I don't really know why. It is a case of trial and error I think, as we are all so different.

I would get a good nights sleep before you try moving your last Erfa dose later.

Hi Carolyn

Have read this suggestion about NDT in the evening a few times. This time I take notice as I am having a shocking period of insomnia at mo ( this is not unknown to me !)

I already take Naturethroid - just half a grain @ 7am - I do well on this.

When I sleep I feel amazing!

IF you have time, just wonder if you could explain, or point me in the direction of something I can read as to 'why' a small dose of NDT in the evening is helpful? Why the body may need it, what it does for sleep aid?

Feel I need to understand this, as my logic says that anymore NDT especially later in the day would be stimulating not the reverse?

many thanks

I'm sorry, I wish I knew why it helps. I found this accidentally after forgetting my late afternoon dose (my smallest dose of the day) and then taking it before bed. I slept really well! I have since read somewhere that others find this to be true too. Not everyone will feel better with a small dose at night, but it does seem to work for me.

I wonder if it might have to do with the fact that the T3 helps keep cortisol levels where they should be. If the cortisol levels are good there is no need for the adrenals to compensate by pumping out adrenaline, which would most definitely keep one awake. I suspect that I have low cortisol in the evening/night because I get very tired in the evening and I don't wake refreshed however well I sleep My body temperature also drops quite a bit in the evening; more than it should do. I think my cortisol is not too bad the rest of the day though. Taking 1/2 grain NDT at bedtime seems to help with this. I slept 9 hours straight last night and I can't remember the last time I did that!

If I do find anything that explains why a bed-time dose works, I will post it :)

Sorry I couldn't be of any help

OK, Thanks Carolyn, will do a bit of research myself.

I know I have high night cortisol & take zinc (30mg) at night to help this.

So likely NDT in eve would not help me I sense.

Mostly all the protocols I use at night along with having cranial osteo has seen my insomnia improve hugely. Just seem to have gone into a no sleep pattern again. Of course is also tricky to not get anxious about this, then it becomes a viscious circle!

Hey Ho!

Magnesium is also good for helping to reduce night-time cortisol levels. It has helped me with insomnia in the past and helped immensely with period pain too. I took 400mg about an hour before bed and it helped me sleep better.

Hi c

Well at present and have been for a few weeks I take 1 erfa on waking. 1 nax with breakfast, one mid morning and 2 na around lunch time. I then take another erfa around 4....5. Seeing as its Xmas holidays those times haven't been solid. Like now its 11am and I still haven't taken any nax!

Silly question probably but the other two times I've never had this wide awake and can't get off to sleep is Xmas eve and last night. Both times I had some form if sugary dessert. Too late on the day to be taking anything high sugary?

Cheers si

The sugar could be it. My husband suffers from reactive hypoglycaemia. When he eats sugary food (or just too much of anything at one time) he produces too much insulin which causes his blood sugar to plummet. When this happens he gets a major adrenaline rush which causes him dizziness, nausea, palpitations etc. Perhaps what you experienced was a milder version of this; a slightly increased level of adrenaline due to excess sugar?

It would be interesting to see if this happened again. I'm not suggesting you go and eat a sugary pudding before bed on purpose though! Just keep an eye on things and if you notice this happens again it could be down to too much sugar at bedtime :)

Alcohol seems to have a similar effect on some people too.

Yeah that's all i can think it can be Carolyn! Obviously normally- when its Nat Christmas - I don't have anything that sugary in the evenings/day. I had some Pepsi and some popcorn last night :0) i just got home and wasn't tired.....which is of course unheard of normally! Lol i can't keep my eyes open past 10 usually.

Couldn't be my adrenals getting over stimulated could it? Coming on line more? I have noticed my morning temp creeping up ever so slightly.

Can I also add, since I too receipt of my grounding sheet, my quality of sheet is muuuuuchhh better! Like a coma it is lol my sister- who is healthy- has noticed her sleep much improved! And, her disabled daughters too.

Hi Si - I am having a problem with insomnia too at the moment :( I seem to have no problem falling asleep on the settee in the eve or usually when I go to bed but I am waking at 2-3am and then am unable to go back to sleep at all :( I increased to 2 grains from 1.75 about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am feeling much better but now this annoying insomnia. I may give a night time dose another go. Hope you get it sorted soon x

Hi clare

my hunch for myself is sugar too late in the day. It could be cause i have upped my Erfa to 2 a day now.....perhaps. Perhaps that has over-stimulated my adrenals. Gives me little rushes when i take some sugar.

You know i had ONE pint last night pre seeing Billy Elliott show and a head ache came on right away! :0( I had those headaches! So painful behind the eyes!

There is belief that alcohol addiction is really a sugar addiction due to it's composition, I mention this, not because one has to be an alcoholic, but often the connection with sugar is not made.
