Core and skin temperature? Bit puzzled.

I've been asked to take temp night and morning for Dr P, under the tongue.

I know that under arm temperature is usually half degree below sublingual, but aways, for as long as I can remember, my under arm temperature has been half a degree above, and not below, sublingual.

I don't know why this should be as I always make sure that I have had neither hot or cold, food or drink for at least half an hour before taking temp.

Can this be normal for some people? Is it possible that core temp could be less than skin?

Some of my sublingual temps are bordering hypothermia, not much over 34 degrees, although prior to an op 6 years ago when getting ready for theatre, they came to check temp with ear thermometer, and again it was little over 34 - said I was hyporthermic and bundles into bed, smothered in blankets. I said I felt normal for me, not feeling particularly cold so op went ahead.

Any thoughts on why this should be or should I take under arm as this is higher - or is it possible that my core temp is lower than my skin. I don't want to give him the wrong information.

Hello Boo,

Taking your temperature is just one small part of what Dr. P. will use to assess your thyroid status. Just tell him what you have said above, and all of the other information that you can gather regarding symptoms etc., and he will look at the complete picture of you to find the best treatment he can. He is very experienced, and his patients go to him with a wide variety of backgrounds and medical histories, so please don't be concerned that taking your temperature holds too much significance. He won't look at your temperatures as the wrong information - they are your information and unique to you, as will his treatment be.
