If you take sub lingual vitamins do they still ... - Thyroid UK
If you take sub lingual vitamins do they still interfere with thyroxine absorption? Logic would suggest not??
There are several things which affect thyroid hormones by being at (relatively) high levels in the blood - rather than (or as well as) a gut interaction issue. Of course the usual warnings are indeed about affecting ability to absorb from the gut - so you are bypassing a lot.
Those which interact in the blood would still interact (though maybe much less significantly). I think that might be the case with iron - but would need to check. Sure, the main iron effect is right in the stomach/gut but, if I am right, it continues to have an effect in the blood. And that is why four hours is recommended.
I do not have any information specifically about vitamins in this regard.

Hello Lolalois,
Following on from Rod's comments, whilst both thyroid pills and any others are in the blood stream it makes sense that they will interact there as well as in the gastrointestinal tract. What I very much doubt however is that there has ever been ANY scientific study to demonstrate it one way or the other. I'd be delighted for someone to prove me wrong, however.

Yes, it's an interesting question I think. I'm taking b12 and vit D sub lingually, and I do try to leave a few hours between them and thyroxine, but I can't see how they would react in the bloodstream, although I'm about as far from a scientist as you could get!
My motto is "better safe than sorry" so I take my T3/T4 last thing at night and any suppliments, whether they are sublingual or not, first thing in the morning.
