Does anybody know how to get an appointment with Dr Skinner?
Hi. I rang his clinic the other day in Birmingham and the answer machine did not say anything about him no longer practising. If you googel his name the practise details come up. It is quite hard to get through on the number as he has only one line. Often you will ge the answer phone or it is engaged. Just keep trying. Hope this helps & you get through soon.
I saw Dr Skinner in November and he asked me to return in a year so I don't think he is going to retire. Leave a message on his answer machine it may take a few days to answer, if not sent him a fax or letter have you got his address? I had to get a referral letter from my GP for my first appointment.
Dr. Skinner, Tel: 0121 4449 8895
There should be someone covering the phones at the moment, but if not the fax number is the same as the phone number.
Otherwise, the address is:-
Dr. G. Skinner,
22 Alcester Road,
Moseley
Birmingham
B13 8BE
I think his first appointment is still £190 for roughly one hour(but don't quote me on that).
You will need a written referral from your GP or hospital consultant that he will need to see before an appointment can be made.
He has Saturday appointments as well as weekdays.
Hope this helps.
Hi Muffy,
Were you treated by Dr Skinner for Underactive Thyroid? I live 30-mins from Birmingham and am considering making an appointment. I'm a little worried about the £190 fee! In your opinion is it money well spent? At the moment I'm feeling quite confused, not sure what to do next as my doctor thinks my TSH levels are fine (7.55 and then 6.8) - so I wonder if Dr Skinner could help me.
Thanks
Dee
A TSH of 7.55 is far too high.
I and my two daughters were treated by him and one of them was really ill even though she had a 'normal' (I hate that word) blood test result. It was total success healthwise for both of them.
I still have some problems, but I think I must have been borderline from the age of 6 when I had a tonsillectomy and my health deteriorated after that. Back problems certainly don't help, so sometimes it's hard to tell what is what. I certainly do more though in my 50's and 60's than I did before that!!!
Obviously you couldn't be 100% sure that your money would be well spent, but if it's the only choice you have, then maybe it would be worth a try.
Is there anywhere on the site we can swap private email addresses?
Hi again Dee,
It occurred to me that you could go to the Thyroid UK website, scroll down to doctors and then go to Dr. Skinner. On there you can read the official GMC transcripts. Pages 16 and 17 are patient testimonies which you can read. Maybe helpful to make up your mind as to whether you want to see Dr. Skinner.
