Hi there - I'm just a beginner too, just had to reply..........

I'm just guessing but ..........

Free Thyrine =TF4? (in range but low)

Free triiodotthyronine = TF3 (in range)

TSH (should be 1) 5.9 is high - have you just been diagnosed?

here's a link I found helpful -

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/pages/...

Go back to the doc and ask them to explain!

Best wishes - Jane x

If this is wrong please please correct me!

HI spareribs,

diagnosed hypo 3yrs ago. On levothyroxine 50mcg, reduced to 25mcg in sept.this year asTF3 was 9. Felt well on this dose but doc wants me to take 50mcg again because of rise in TSH..Have been left on 25mcg meantime but will have to retest in 2 mths. Doc. got somewhat "stroppy" when I asked for information! Thanks for your reply - will try the link you advise. Had hyper. symptoms for some months - should have reported sooner to doc. but dont get much satisfaction, even feel awkward asking for copy of results.

Cheers Chris x

they are your results ,don't be afraid to ask him/her to print them for you xx

Foxglove,

The society for edocrinolgy said in a press release this year that a TSH over 4 indicated an increased risk of heart problems.

If the T3 is high but the TSH high too, this could well indicate theat the T3 is not getting in to the cells. You could try a urine uptake test to see how much is getting in.

If T3 isn't getting in to the cells, usual culprit is low ferritin (stored iron), or low copper, low B12, or D3........

Thank you,NellyB

Had ferritin level tested - 33-according to lab. within normal levels. Did get doc. to print results on all tests done, but couldn't get satisfactory explanation of results. ( I tried!). Can you suggest a D3 supplement,?- this is a new one to me re. thyroid. I really don't want to take more thyroxine as I feel good on 25mcg. This is problem with doc. as she wants me to increase. How about iodinne?

Chris

in reply to

Hi Chris,

Ferritin needs to be around 70 for women. If it lower than this it doesn't help the T3 to get into and be used by the cells. You need to take iron supplements.

I buy soft gel vit D3 from BigVits.co.uk.

Hi Nel

thanks for advice Do you also buy your iron from Bigvits? I've already starded D3 (Holland and Barrat) - also kelp - 'tho conflicting advice on that one! Didn't think I needed iron as doc. said not neccesary. Still worth trying before I have to retest & face doc.....

cheers, thanks again for your interest, Chris x
