Hi

I have never heard about this and can only speak from my experience but i had radioactive iodine about 15 years ago as treatment for overactive thyroid and although it was a long slow process of recovery and i ended up becoming underactive i have no problems now and after being regulated on thyroxine im fine.

Thank you buttercup

My thyroid function is normal, however I would go underactive and would be on thyroxine, I am so afraid of my saliva glands being more affected than they are now. They did a study at the Royal Marsden in 2007 and a high percentage were affected. Do you know of other options , I would appreciate your comments.

I'm afraid not, i didnt get told of any. It was when i wanted to start having a family that they suggested i have the iodine treatment as being pregnant and on carbimazole for overactive thyroid (and indeed being overactive) could have apparently been harmful (or more of a risk) to me and the baby, so you see i wasnt given much of an option. On the bright side tho that was about 17 years ago and things move on very quickly so i think it would be worth asking yr doctor and having a look around to see if there are any other options. Hope that helped x
