I’m new to this forum. I have been taking Thyroxine 75mg (1x50 & 1x25) for the past twenty years and have never had any problems with it. Recently in the past month I have been feeling very edgy with at times a pounding hearbeat and also a bit low and fed up and quite anxious.Yesterday (and don’t know why I hadn’t noticed before) I noticed the 25mg was in a different box, much bigger tablet and supplied by Teva and not Mercury as my old ones were. Luckily I still had a box of my old ones so this morning I took one and honestly almost immediately I felt like a different person. No palpitations all day,no anxiousness or edginess. I popped into the pharmacist who provide my prescription and she said what ever ones arrive they give out!!! I made it clear I did not want the Treva ones again. Has this happened to anyone else? as I can’t believe that a 25mg tablet could have such an affect.

TEVA tablets contain manitol which I believe can make the tablet more stable, however, it appears that it might also make it more potent for some people. People can absorp tablets differently depending on the fillers. This seems to be especially true for levothyroxine which acts like a low index drug so small changes can make a very big difference.
Refer your pharmacist to the review of levothyroxine by the MHRA for further information. More importantly, simply insist on seeing the tablets before they are dispensed and take your prescription to a different pharmacy if they can't supply the ones you need. gov.uk/government/publicati...
