Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on having a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis to determine the levels of minerals and toxic metals in the body at a cellular level? Thanks 🙂

hello RydeBeach , I have just received results from mineralcheck.com. They were best priced, fast and detailed, with graph and report of findngs.

The knowledge allows me to treat myself appropriately via supplements or diet.

I would recommend having such a test to everyone, note all hair samples go to the same usa laboratory for testing.

Some blood tests taken at same time produced same results, which to me proved how effective, accurate and useful is hair mineral testing. Best wishes x

I would be quite weary about the mineral analysis through a hair sample; they claim they test for mineral deficiencies - however there is no indication how this is performed (what analysis they use) and these hair sample tests have not been scientifically proven to be accurate.

Also on the website, it says that 'their nutritional therapist can recommend a unique blend of supplements needed', so this suggests to me that they would be keen to find a deficiency or even deficiencies, so they can sell you their 'unique blend'. Call me a cynic, but this sounds suspicious to me.

The most accurate and proven method to measure mineral deficiencies is through a blood test that can accurately assess their levels in the blood stream. Anything else I would not trust to be honest.

Thank you for your reply, I can appreciate your concern.

I can only talk from my own perspective: I cannot know the test methods used by usa laboratory, only that it's accredited and regulated. Like you I am wary of some sites that recommend heath benefits from certain supplements, but not in this case.

I looked initially at blood tests but it was so expensive, for me it would have cost thousands. Yes, their nutritionist/site sells and suggests supplements that may correct deficiencies. I have looked at these but have decided to purchase elsewhere. It is a matter of choice.

No I would not call you a cynic, it is only sensible to be very careful. I did verify this site was uk registered and financially viable.

DNA is extracted from blood so every blood or body sample given up carries some risk of information being used inappropriately . I have to buy a lot of meds and supplements, this has reminded me of how much I have to take these matters on trust. Best wishes

I think your information is flawed, no one is allowed to extract DNA from your blood without your explicit informed consent.

The legislation clearly states: 'Extracting DNA from a blood sample without consent is illegal under the Human Tissue Act 2004. It is an offence to hold bodily material with the intent to analyse its DNA and use the results for research or any other purpose without "qualifying consent".'

So if a laboratory would do a DNA analysis without your explicit consent, they can be prosecuted and fined. All accredited laboratories that do blood sample analysis abide by this code of practice. So if you are using a reputable and vetted laboratory, your blood is only analysed for the parameters you have given consent for.
