Menopause supplements

Hi I am looking for a thyroid friendly menopause supplement. I had what is thought to be transient thyroiditis but have some lingering symptoms which may be linked more to iron deficiency but it has been mentioned on here that what I am taking may not be best for me as it has milk thistle in it. Currently I am taking menopause complex by Hey Nutrition. I am going to start taking igennus B complex to help sort my B vitamins out. Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

Multi pills like that are rarely a good idea. For a start, they don't contain enough of anything to do much good. The only things that are going to help you are the things you need, so all nutrients should be tested - e.g. zinc and copper - before supplementing. More is not better of anything and can be dangerous.

Also, avoid like the plague anything that says it 'helps regulate hormones'. Highly unlikely that it does but people read that and get sucked in. The idea is to separate you from your money!

No harm in trying stuff. sage leaf extract, for example. It might help, it might not. But we're all different and what helps one person might not help another. And, if it should make you worse, and you're taking it in a multi, you won't know which ingredient it is that's making you worse. So try things in isolation, not at the same time as a heap of other stuff.

But I'm afraid I can't be of much help about what might work because I don't think I had a menopause. lol At least, I didn't notice it. I had a hysterectomy when I was 40 so didn't have lack of periods to guide me. I think I had one hot flush when I was 50... But I could have been mistaken about that because it was a very hot day. :)

greygoose thankyou I have been on them for about three years and they have only ever had a positive effect for me I regards to how I have been feeling. I am thinking of trying a functional doctor to see if they can advise. I am fed up with trying to get on top of things only to end up feeling as if I am on a rollercoaster with my health.

But how do you know you still need them? You might be just fine without them.

Beware of functional doctors! They have some very funny ideas!

greygoose you are right I might not need them but currently I don’t feel strong enough to stop taking them. Getting through each day is enough hence me trying to find sites like this and ask for advice.
