Nothing ever runs smoothly…now - palpitations…

JoJoloveschocolate profile image

This is what I posted 24 days ago:

“last week i swapped over from sigma pharm 5mcg t3 twice a day to thybon henning (because of cost issues).

For a few days, I felt absolutely lousy - bit dizzy, bit spaced out, legs and thighs aching, lethargic, my weight went up a bit again!! Also had a couple of weird palpitation episodes which I just ignored because it happened about 8hours after my t3 when i was due to take the next one (which I did and was fine).

Today I feel bloody fabulous! I went out to the coffee shop this morning and sat and did some writing (fingers flying across the keyboard like a demon!), came home and went for a fairly swift walk around the block (15 mins). Sat down for a bit. Husband went to appt so I went out for another walk around the block because I felt full of life and energy!! Never before has this happened. Came back home, did a bit of weeding in the garden and a bit of tidying up. Could have done more but decided to stop and rest now and take it a bit easy rest of the day.

Could it be the change in medication that produced this feeling crap - feeling great? (it won’t last….it never does🤣)….”

———————————

Around the same time, I (stupidly) decided it would be a good idea to change my hrt from sequi patches to conti, but had awful bloating and period - type pains so stopped the hrt completely for a week and then went back onto sequi because i then had an increase of hot flushes and palpitations.

My latest results from 17th march 2025(last levo 24hrs, last t3 12 hours, fasting, taken 0730am) =

tsh 0.11 (last test before this one = 0.008), t4 18.4 (12-22) t3 6 (3.1-6.8)

(for info: my results from about 5 weeks before these latest ones - after 9 weeks on 100mcg and 16 weeks on 10mcg t3 (same ranges). All Blood tests - taken at about 7.45/8am (by the time i finished faffing about) fasting, 24 hours after last levo dose and 12 hours after last t3 dose (I take split doses 5mcg/5mcg). t3 - 6.1, t4 - 17.8, tsh - 0.008)

Now I seem to be getting palpitations every day - usually starting when I’m due my second dose of t3 (5mcg at 6 am/5 mcg 2pm). I take my second dose as usual and the palpitations settle down later in the evening and overnight.

In all other aspects I feel quite well. I had a flare up of ibs, but now know that was due to eating nuts - stopped eating them and the cramps and constipation stopped. I also had bad low back pain which went when I crouched down awkwardly and my lower spine seemed to audibly “clunk” into position so I’m now taking things a bit slower and doing some exercise to strengthen my back.

Not sure what to do.

This morning I just took 2.5mcg of t3 and am thinking of perhaps doing 2.5mcg three times a day (lowering from 10mcg total). Does this sound like the right thing to do for now? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks, jj

hello, well done amazing having more energy and capacity to do stuff isn’t it.

I’m in Thybon Henning too, I’m wondering if you might benefit from taking it all in one go with Levo in the morning and not splitting? Some of us do better like that, others better with a split dose.

The palpitations can be your levels dropping of course, not just an over replacement symptom.

HRT has a massive impact, try not to change too many things too frequent, allow each change a few weeks/cycles to settle.

Thank you so much for your reply  Regenallotment - really appreciate your thoughts. I did wonder if it was levels dropping causing the issue. I have been considering taking it all as one dose in the morning for a while, but now with the palpitations I feel a bit scared to try it. I used to take 5mcg at 6am and the other 5mcg at about 4pm then a while ago I changed it to 2pm and that was working so much better. I was planning to move the pm dose slowly up to the morning if that makes sense. But now this has happened I don’t know what to do for the best. I think the stopping the hrt so abruptly has definitely had an affect and wondered if my oestrogen had just plummeted. Then I wondered if it was the change to thybon….or the t3 now being around 6 being a bit too high and that is now catching up with me….or, like you say - t3 levels dropping.

I don’t even know why I thought it would be a good idea to change the hrt at that time! I should have waited. I think it was because I was generally feeling better …and decided to upset the applecart!! 🤣 Doh!

We all do it don’t we, if it’s not changing something when we feel better it’s running before we can walk. It’s all a good sign.

The good thing with t3 is you can try it for a week and see, if you don’t get on with an idea then back to the drawing board and try again.

Sugar also impacts my palpitations when I get them, dark chocolate, bananas, could it be the mid afternoon pick me up snack? There is also an interaction with oestrogen and insulin that could be linked.

Thank you so much for being so calm and kind and level-headed!! I really needed that! I only took 2.5mcg this morning and was ok for a while but started feeling a bit weird again (a bit dizzy, bit woozy) before 12 oclock so I took another 5mcg and am actually starting to feel a bit better now (not as woozy) Maybe i should try 7.5mcg am and 2.5mcg pm. I think/hope it will all settle down again. Thanks again.
