local outbreak of stupidity virus ... hope its not epidemic .

last november i put in repeat prescription for my usual 25's and 50's Levo .... (prescription has been same for 4 years and until now just runs like clockwork)

some jobsworth at the GP's decided i didn't need any 25's yet and only issued prescription for 50's

so i collected them from chemist , and went to sort out the issue of the refused 25's via GP reception... sorted .. no problem .. GP issued another prescription for the whole lot ... 50's and 25's .. which i also collected ... so i then had 4 months worth of 50's .... are you keeping up ?

so 4 months later , when i next request a repeat for both ...i get a txt saying " Dear miss tattybogle , your recent request for levotyrozine shows a gap since it's last issue Please contact the surgery to confirm the current dose you are taking and why the gap in issue. Many thanks, MMT "

. so i do as requested .... (and manage to resist the urge to point out that the F*kwit trying to fiddle around with my previously 'clockwork' levothyroxine prescription repeats can't even spell levothyroxine , and since their bean counters had evidently been paying such close attention to my prescription records the reason for the gap should have been blindingly obvious )

sorted , and a prescription for both duly appears at chemist .

so .....(trying to avoid extra hassle for the chemist who are usually brilliant but occasionally don't notice their own note to "please avoid Teva for tattybogle " ).... i go to counter...

(me) "hi , if it's not been bagged up yet, please remind them to avoid Teva, there's a note on your system but it sometimes get's overlooked , thanks"

(assistant ) " yes i can see that on the system , don't worry about that ,no it's not been filled yet ~ i'll get someone to do it "

.... so , a few minutes later they re-appear and give me bag .........of Teva .

(me ) ...... more or less speechless..... " um .... sorry to be a pain , but ..... "

i do wonder what they do with the unopened packets of teva that they exchange ?

do they try and peel the stickers off , or just put a new sticker over the top for the next person.. or... (given the loss of brain cell's that is becoming apparent round here ) perhaps they just throw them away ?

Now THAT is how to write a title for your post! 😹

I'm afraid it is a highly contagious virus particularly virulent in healthcare systems at the moment. However scientists have discovered that sometimes, you can ameliorate the symptoms by saying what you want in reverse, so the next time you go to the counter try saying 'I can only tolerate Teva, please make sure that the chemist dispenses only Teva for me' Say this very clearly, slowly and succinctly. This is highly likely to result in you being given the very Levothyroxine brand you truly want but didn't request and NOT Teva...😄

I’ve actually got it written into repeats the brand I’m ok with but still get Teva, the last excuse was “oh the pharmacist thought you needed lactose free so gave you these” I thought prescriptions were double checked before giving you them 🤷‍♀️ so another days wait getting the right ones .

I sure hope they don't catch this in my neighborhood, I haven't the energy to fight that.

I'm afraid it's spreading rapidly... It's already come to my area, and like you have no energy either!😬

it’s frustrating isn’t it?!!!

Last month my pharmacy was chasing me to pick up 5 weeks of prescriptions because they didn’t have space to store it. I asked my friend to collect it as I was working.

This weekend I’ve had to board part of the loft out as i’ve nowhere to store the quantity! My friend collected 54 bottles of HRT gel, 6 boxes of testosterone ( I box lasts 240 days), 30 boxes of progesterone and an industrial amount of Propanolol.

The pharmacy wouldn’t take it back and my surgery said they would but would have to bin it!

They never get the amounts right but it’s never been on this scale!

hope you've got strong joists 🏚️ ... i once found 36 massive bottles of gaviscon stashed in my dad's shed , but your stash takes the biscuit.

Omg! I'd think I'd won the lottery with that kind stock pile. The women I would help!So was this the surgery's fault? Did their system carry on sending prescriptions through on a weekly basis?

You'd think the pharmacist would clock it and know it was an obviously error.

Mandyj2 profile image
Mandyj2 in reply tosparkly

The chemist is saying they dispense what the surgery instructs, the surgery haven’t commented because I can’t get the dispensary to answer the phone! I am prescribed monthly so was expecting to collect two months of HRT. I requested to be put on quarterly late last year and suspect this has caused the error but as nobody approved it I carried on with monthly repeats.

I can use the gel / Progesterone within the expiry date but not the testosterone. I’m unsure of the rules here but the latter is going to help other women.

Good on you! 😊

Whaaaaaat? They'd probably expire before you even use it!

SharpClaws profile image
SharpClaws in reply toMandyj2

Gosh I’m so envious about the testosterone as my surgery won’t issue it and I have to get mine privately from the Menopause Clinic which is very expensive. Apparently it’s a postcode thing whether you can have it or not! 😡

Just shows you doesn't it. Women's health doesn't matter!

Start a market stall, that sure is industrial proportions, tickled me pink this end, Perhaps the stupidity virus is being added to all the other health enhancing additives in our our water supply system. I bet the pharmacy assistants faces were a picture, thank you for the laugh.

Why put yourself through all that ? Keep up Tatty. Recent research ( by Prof. P ) concludes you probably don't have any need for Levothyroxine anyway so bin those prescriptions 🤣

tattybogle profile image

silly me , i inexplicably forgot about that research immediately after i read it ~ virus must have gotten to me already 🥴

Thanks so much for the reminder , life will be so much easier now ...... 🚽💊

This is far better that the stuff they call comedy these days.... 😂😂😂 If it wasn't so sad, we could all have a good old laugh about it!

I have come to the firm conclusion, that intelligence is rapidly decreasing - add to it a severe loss of common sense and we can easily see that we are all doomed!! 🙄

Eazybiker profile image
Eazybiker in reply toTina_Maria

I think that medical practitioners increasingly reason: follow the protocol, go through the checklist so you pin it on those two things if you get sued.

Tina_Maria profile image
Tina_Maria in reply toEazybiker

Indeed, however, if they are so worried about that, they could simply ask the patient to sign a disclaimer that they take their own risk, if they want to increase their medication based on their symptoms. I am sure that many patients would happily sign that, if it meant that they can function like a normal person and have a decent quality of life!

when I took levothyroxine the pharmacist gave me 50mg of one manufacturer and 25mg of another manufacturer. I queried this with the pharmacist who insisted they were both exactly the same. I insisted they gave me the same even though the pharmacist rolled his eyes. I now know that they can have different fillers etc.

Hi tattybogle. I was going through a similar farce every few months sourcing 50s+25s but no Teva. I've lost count of how many packets of Teva I received and returned over the years. Recently I asked my GP pharmacist if I could try Vencamil 75 to save them money (to save me hassle).

I got on ok with it, so have switched officially and it is written on my prescription. I have now collected 2 orders and both were correct. Feeling more optimistic! Might be something you could try.

How's THIS for efficiency then? From potential home insurance provider!

"Firstly please accept out apologies for the concussion This year’s price of £1,471.52 includes:

£14.43 Home Legal cover, and should have been the latest invite you received

The informatin regarding the Alarm has been ammended to

a) Is it bells only or monitored by a central station? Central Station

With regards to the alarm, (should read 'Safe') we are unable to add this without a make and Model number and a cash r ating. You will find your invitation corrected with these points"

Kind regards

(Needless to say we didn't take them up on their invitation!!)

Kerry124 profile image
Kerry124 in reply toAtoZ24

That’s really expensive my insurance have never asked about my Alarm system . I was broken into last year and my car was stolen so I did not inform them because we just replaced the locks etc. I now have added security CCTV to keep an eye on the cars on my drive.

AtoZ24 profile image

I have a three room B&B in my annexe-that's why it's so costly! And that's one of the cheaper quotes!! I'll stop this now or I'll be struck off the forum!!

My surgery sometimes does better than that! I'm on 25 on alternate days so 1 box (28 tabs) lasts 2 months. I occassionally get 2 boxes on my order ( so 4 months supply) as I get my meds every 2 month! Better too much than too little :)

That really is a good one! And like the SARs-CoV-2 virus, there must be different variations so sometimes people have the full blown disease and take time off work, and other times they must only feel a bit poorly so come into work anyway!

What gets me with our GP surgery is that they drop items off if they haven't been requested for a period of time. This happens with my son's codeine prescription because he just takes it occasionally. But when they drop it off the list, and I ask to have it back on again, it is automatically sent out. Which can mean we have enough to keep us going for 6 months or more. So they drop it off the list again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

This is where the NHS could benefit from efficiency!

They give the odd bits to people like me that have a split dose over a month rather than giving me 56 days worth, my next call to the GP.

Good morning Tattybogle well what can I say....thank you for sharing it's really funny but farcical, it did make me laugh. I've had similar but you take the biscuit. You could write a wee comedy sketch with that one. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I did prescription training for the Coop a while back, and, if the items have not left the pharmacy, they can be reused. But if you walk out the door and then go straight back in, the items have to be destroyed - ditto if you get your prescription delivered and give it straight back to the driver as it is wrong - destroyed.

It has already spread to the DVLA, They tried to fine me for not paying road tax on a car I have never owned. After a lot of back and forth (6 weeks to reply to a letter) they agreed I did not owe them anything and sent a slip to say so.

Two weeks ago a credit agency sent a letter demanding I pay the fine. The DVLA had asked them to pursue it.... Suddenly the DVLA have an email and will respond within 2 working days. It is now 14 days and nothing.

I doubt I will be able to take my NDT to prison. Can it be baked in cakes?

The DVLA are useless my stolen car is still on there a year after it was stolen. It’s probably in bits now or in South Africa or some unsuspecting person is driving a cloned vehicle. The police have the thieves in custody but they have no idea where my car is.
