Hello, can anyone advice on the following results? I have my ferritin, folate and B12 results (attached), still waiting for Vitamin D. After changing my NDT, my TSH has improved from over 100 (in January) to 49 now. My T4 has improved from 3.4 in January, to 7.9 now (range 11.3-21.6). I can continue to increase my dose of NDT, so I'm happy that my thyroid results will continue to improve. My T3 was 2.0 in January (range 3.1-6.8). I can get that retested in a few weeks with blood tests the consultant has ordered.
Based on these results the GP has prescribed ferrous fumarate. Is there anything else people would recommend supplement wise? Thank-you.

Thanks I will look at the pernicious anemia group. I was started on B12 injections in 2019 and they stopped during lockdown. After that they said my levels were ok. I have had to ask three time for them actually test b12 this time (they said it wasn't clinically indicated). I do eat full fat dairy, etc.
are you still taking Thyro Gold? Because this drug does not always work for everyone and I think Thyroid S is a better NDT and I would be bedridden with a TSH that high
No, it seems that the ThyroGold was not working at all for me. I have since found posts on here that suggest it deteriorated in strength a few years back. I have been struggling with my current symptoms and being extremely hypothyroid, but I have started to feel a little better, reflected in my TSh dropping and T4 increasing.
All your vitamins and minerals - ferritin, B12 and folate are much too low - and I would think before taking supplements ' the route causes ' need investigation.
No thyroid hormone works well until these core strength vitamins and minerals , including vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal levels -
Just for reference - I now aim for a ferritin at around 100 - folate 20 - active B12 125 ( serum B12 500++ ) and vitamin D 125.
Before supplementing ferrous fumarate this result of 17 - needs investigating - and maybe after the ' all clear ' an iron infusion suggested since it will take a very long time to build up your ferritin with tablets -
and when I was researching for myself I read that no thyroid hormone works well until ferritin is at least over 70:
With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement
A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex
Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week
Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need 2 per day and/or may need separate methyl folate couple times a week
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
IF you are not vegan/vegetarian the cause of malabsorption of B12 should be investigated first and tests such as intrinsic factor antibodies, parietal cells antibodies, MMA and homecysteine done before any supplementation. If your diet includes, meat, eggs and dairy you most likely will need B12 injections as malabsorption means that oral, sublingual, spray etc B12 delivery will not work but only push the blood levels up without effect on the cells.
Vegeterians can also suffer from malabsorption so doing the tests suggested before any supplementing would be prudent. At the end of the day the only method guaranteed to deliver B12 to the cells where it's needed is by injection. The best group for B12 imo is Pernicious Aneamia/B12 Deficiency Support Group with a well tested and proven protocol for treating deificiency whatever the origin. Best of luck.
