Esther Littlewood a Masters student at Bournemouth University is doing some research on Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and diet.
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder causing hypothyroidism, leading to symptoms like fatigue and cognitive impairment. While levothyroxine is the standard treatment, many patients continue to experience symptoms. Research suggests that nutritional deficiencies, particularly in selenium and vitamin D, may contribute to disease progression, but dietary recommendations remain inconsistent. More research is needed to establish evidence-based dietary guidelines for Hashimoto’s management.
This study explores the relationship between dietary intake, symptom severity, and quality of life in individuals with Hashimoto’s.
Thyroid UK has always felt that diet has an impact on autoimmune disease so we are pleased to see this survey being done.
You have to have a formal diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and are over 18 years of age to take part.
