? Starving To Ged Rid Of Bugs ?

For 7 weeks I've had a bug. It's nearly gone now but my brain is still not functioning at full power. Basically I've been feeling like the walking brain dead, violently coughing, sneezing, shaking, being sick & every time I drink coffee or eat I have to rush to the toilet. Anyway, my point is some time over the last few weeks I read on here about ? starving to get rid of bugs out of your system. Now I can't remember what the post said & I can't of saved it because I can't find it.

Can anyone advise me about how long to stop eating for to reset my system & get rid of bugs?

Thank You

That's a difficult question and has the potential to cause other problems.

You need to be careful with this!

Do you perhaps mean going on a liquid diet with nourishing broths and the like?

We don't have enough information?

Have you had any tests done. eg Full Blood Count

What action have you taken so far?

Probiotics perhaps?

Nutrient deficiencies?

Allergies?

If so can you post the results.

I don't think starving yourself is a wise move....on several counts

Have you consulted your GP?

Thank You. It's only a bug I've had. I've never known one last for such a long time before. It's not something to bother the doctor about. I was in a local pharmacy to get more tissues a few weeks ago & the pharmacist was telling me a lot of people are ill with the same thing. I've been taking paracetamol, vitamin C & Zinc & local honey. Vik chest rub & local honey. I've got an EpiPen for my allergies - this isn't an allergy. I'm allergic to citrus so I can't take anything associated with lemons. I feel a lot better now but I'm still not right. I read on here a few weeks ago about stopping eating to reset your system & to get rid of a bug quickly. At that time my brain wasn't retaining information & I forgot. I eat healthy anyway so I do get proper nourishment. My only health problem is I had my thyroid removed during 2008. I'm 62 so bugs hit me harder now than when I was young. Thank You

Hmmm, yes! I'm not the biggest fan of medics.

It may just have to run it's course.

In a similar situation with chronic sinusitis a GP told me to " tough it out!"

Is your thyroid hormone replacement optimal?

Have you recently been tested....if not worth consideration

Yes. I was tested before Christmas & everything is all good. I think the problem is things take longer to run their course when you get older. I've been in bed by 9pm most nights with Vik on my chest thinking I'll sleep it off & I waken up coughing, sneezing & I have to rush to the bathroom. Thank You for your help

That reminds me of something my dear old mum used to say… “feed a cold, starve a fever”. Based on an old wives tale (and I’m not calling my mum an old wife!) it meant that you could eat while you had a cold, but you fasted during a fever because, allegedly, this would reduce your body temperature and therefore break the fever…

I don’t know how much truth there is in that but I always feel much hungrier during the first few days of a cold but less so as it drags on. Mum also used to say that a cold would take 3 weeks to go away by itself and 21 days if you took medicines for it. 😆

I think there might be some truth to it, I remember when I had a cold I always felt hungry even with the taste buds not playing ball, but I did not feel like eating at all when I had a fever, only forced myself to drink plenty of liquids.....

But in any case, I think starving yourself is not a good idea ...😮

I've not starved myself, I've been “feeding my cold" & drinking plenty of liquids.

I always remember “feed a cold, starve a fever” & I follow that advice.
