I'm on both Levothyroxine (100mcg at bedtime) and Liothyronine (10mcg @ 5am & 5mcg @ 3pm) prescribed by NHS endocrinologist who I see annually where we have an informed discussion on how I am feeling, blood results (I do privately so I can manage optimum timings) and any changes we need to make. However I recently had a message from my GP who wanted to reduce my Liothyronine from 15mcg to 10mcg as that's the NHS guidelines - just thought the members should know about this ludicrous policy!!! Whatever happened to treating the patient. Needless to say, sense won out and my GP isn't going to interfere with the expert, my endocrinologist!

Looking at your previous post …..your now in Devon and yes…..policy in Devon is 10mcg max (madness)
Might possibly have been reviewed to something more patient centred

I am new to all this and finding it difficult to post and keep updating my Profile and at last it has worked. I too live in Devon now but was diagnosed and treated when living in Bromley Kent and London. I am having trouble with blood tests as my GP doesn't seem to understand that I don't want my thyroxine reduced as I am okay as I am on 125mcg on alternate days. I think I could up it to 125mcgs each day but am worried that it may cause Atrial Fibrilation. I am told by him that TSH is to stimulate my thyroid but I had most of it removed in 1959 so it would be difficult to stimulate! I am sorry that I am rambling on but at 89 years old perhaps I am allowed to.
If you actually have an endo that helps you and supports you well that is a miracle in my experience so many of them don't want to treat hormones at all they want to prescribe antidepressants!
A 10mcg maximum dose is certainly NOT NHS policy. However it is a cruel Devon policy. The joint thyrpid groups have been fighting this to get NHSE to say in their national guidance that there should be no maximum dose in a local policy, but NHSE are difficult to turn around.
If you're on Facebook, join ITT Improve Thyroid Treatment group - we have a template letter containing details of all national guidance and parliamentary statements on T3. Patients can send the letter to wheover they need to.
