T3 NHS Prescription in SW London

Hi all,

Has anyone found a NHS endocrinologist who will prescribe Liothyronine in SW London?! Ideally Charing Cross/Chelsea Westminster…

Details: I have been taking 100mcg Levothyroxine daily and 10mcg (morning) and 5mcg (afternoon) Liothyronine for 3 years which has made a world of difference.

After moving to SW London a certain professor at Charing Cross (I think you all know who) took me off ALL my thyroid medication, leaving me feeling dreadful.

I went back to the fantastic private doctor who prescribed me the Liothyronine originally and he has said I should absolutely be back on the medicine. He however can only offer private prescriptions which I am struggling to afford.

My GP said that I can see another Endocrinologist in my area to see. Has anyone had any luck? I’m based in Fulham but also could be moving to Tooting Bec.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have just responded on another thread to say I use Roseway Labs for my private T3 prescription. All very straightforward and inexpensive!

Thank you so much for your reply :) Roseway said my prescription would be £180 for 28 days, which is expensive to me. Is this the sort of price you pay there?

Hi Meebles. What you’ve been quoted is indeed expensive. I suspect they have suggested their own compounded capsules. I requested the Thybon Henning 20 mcg tablets which I split as 10 mcg and along with my 100 mcg T4 seems to be working for me. On this basis I have 200 days supply for somewhere in the region of £60 - I can’t remember exactly. There was a relatively modest consultation fee as well but nowhere near the cost of seeing a private endo…

Exactly what is written on the prescription?

If your doctor has written you up for 5 or 10mcg tablets they are very expensive.

Get your doctor to write the prescription for 20mcg Thybon Henning tablets and then the cost should come right down to around 60p a tablet. Use a pill cutter to quarter or halve them depending on your dose.

Meebles I'm so sorry to hear how you've been treated by NHS. It beggars belief.

PLEASE can you send your story to The The Thyroid Trust who are collating stories from people being taken off thyroid medication, especially T3. Previous such data was sent to NHSE and The Lords, and we 're doing it again as the national situation is still poor.
