Private Appt due, when to share new blood results with GP?

I have my first private appt next Friday

But the GP raised my levothyroxine from 62.5 to 75 based on

Serum TSH level 6.29 mIU/L [0.27 - 4.2]; Above high reference limit

Serum free T4 level 15.3 pmol/L [12.0 - 22.0]

which means the medicheck one I got is skewed (pic in next post)

But I did get the antibody and T3 results & its the thyrogobulin that is high - so I dont know what that means

& when do I tell the GP about the medicheck results?

High TG antibodies confirms cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Unfortunately NHS currently doesn’t recognise only high TG antibodies as autoimmune

But then they don’t treat the autoimmune aspect….they only treat subsequent hypothyroidism

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/303...

Conclusions: Elevated TgAb levels are associated with symptom burden in HT patients, suggesting a role of thyroid autoimmunity in clinical manifestations of HT. Based on these results, we recommend screening for TgAb antibodies in HT patients with symptom burden.

Did you test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

What vitamin supplements are you taking

But the GP raised my levothyroxine from 62.5 to 75 based on

Retest 2-3 months after each increase in dose in levothyroxine

Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking

D folate and B12 are all fine - I missed ferritin

GP wont test again until May(!) but I might

I'm on Wockhardt as I reacted to Mercury

I wonder what the consultant will think of the antibodies - my T3 seems OK

& do I send these results to the GP or wait until I have the info from the consultant

& do I send these results to the GP or wait until I have the info from the consultant

I would wait and retest first

Then send both sets to GP

Likely ready for further increase in Levo by then

Your medichecks results are not skewed, just not up to date - assuming you started taking the increase after the medichecks tests were done. And that's ok. Because the results of that test are saying you needed an increase.

As for sharing your results with your GP, I can't see there's much point. They don't like private tests, probably won't accept them but will refuse to do the extra tests on the grounds that 'they're not necessary'. I don't suppose your GP will even know what T3 or Tg antibodies are! They know so little about thyroid. But it's up to you. I think you can insist that the Medichecks results are put in your records, so that might be useful for the future. But definitely show them to your new private GP, he might be more open-minded. :)

I booked a consultant rather than a GP, because of all my other crap

Thinking about my thyroid, so far I'd be on several different meds if I listened to be GP:

Lanzoprazol (or similar) for my indigestion

Salbutamol for my dry cough

Statins for my cholesterol

Diclofanic (or similar) for my hands

& anti-depressents for my exhaustion & god knows what for my guts - well I do know - nothing and nothing for pain either

I reckon I might still have a few of those once I get it all balanced but Id rather not take a shed load of stuff until I know I need it

& I guess it could still take years to balance it

Hi

Just wanted to let you know that Lanzoprazole and such like medication is not intended to be used long term as it leads to cardiovascular problems. I started using a Swedish device called Iqoro to deal with digestive problems -completely free from side effects . You can find it on the web. It works on training muscles involved in swallowing , which keeps your stomach in the right position and prevents stomach acid from rising up . It works . Iqoro is supposed to be available on the NHS but I do not regret buying it privately.

On the question of statins , members of this forum will tell you not to worry about your cholesterol as will dr Malcolm Kendrick in his books ‘The Great Cholesterol Con’ and ‘ The Clot Thickens ‘. Furthermore , it is stated clearly on the NHS website that patients treated for underactive thyroid should be treated first for this condition before statins can be prescribed. They also warn against statins for patients over 65. I know just a couple of people that had no reaction to statins, majority developed joint and muscle pains that may be indicative of muscle wasting/ tearing - also mentioned on the NHS website .

All the best!

Aw thanks Britpol they are the meds I've refused as I don't think they will fix the problem, just hide it

I'm hoping, perhaps naively, that if my thyroid meds ever get fixed/balanced (along with my hrt) I might feel better than I have in years (decades?)

Or maybe not

I wonder how 'bad' my thyroglobulin antibodies number is - would it explain my symptoms

I may have low stomach acid so no lanzoprazol for me - but gp says we don't really test for that

And as for statins it's a world war with the gp - I found this a while back

Statins, risk, and personalised care

& I'm not taking them without a cardio calcium scan (said with a little 'so there' & my tongue sticking out)
