I can see you asked a similar question 5 months ago and was given advice by GlowCoach and SlowDragon .

It would be helpful if you could share your most recent thyroid blood test results, as hair loss may be linked to thyroid medication not being optimal. It’s also important to check key vitamins- folate, ferritin, B12 and vit D. Have you had these tested at all?

In my last tests the results were as below please advise me .

FT4. 12.2

FTT3. 3.7

TSH. 3.25

Vit . D. 63

Ferritin 322

Cholesterole 4.5

LDL 3.3

Thank you for your help : my endocrinologist alway always says “ you are in the normal range “ Is this true ???

Thank you

Can you add the reference ranges for the above tests (in brackets after results) as these can vary between laboratories.

TSH should always be under 2, with most members reporting they feel best when this falls closer to/ under 1. An elevated result indicated you need more thyroid medication. What is your current dose?

Sorry my endo does not write in the range so l can’t tell you . MTC

I would email his/ her secretary and ask for a print out of results to share with us. If you have ranges, we can work out your percentage through the range.

How much Levothyroxine are you taking and do you always get same brand of levothyroxine at each prescription

How much T3 (liothyronine)

Are you now getting T3 on NHS

Which brand are you taking and do you split the dose as 2 or 3 doses across the day

How much was levothyroxine reduced when T3 was added

Frequently levothyroxine is reduced too much

And EXACTLY what vitamin supplements are you taking

STRONGLY recommend getting FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

As the cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune, are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

Come back with new post once you get results

I take 100 to 125 mg as l alternate my thyroxine one day 100 next 125 mgs

I initially took 20 mgs of Liothyronine every day . As I was on edge after about 2 years I dropped down to 10 mgs per day .

I also take vitamin D ( 2000) every day

FT4. 12.2

FTT3. 3.7

TSH. 3.25

Vit . D. 63

TSH too high

Need ranges obviously on Ft4 and Ft3

Ft4 looks likely rock bottom

Typically range is 12-22 …..but some labs are different

Similarly Ft3 looks extremely low if lab range is 3.1-6.8

Vitamin D is too low

Suggest you increase to 3000iu daily and include vitamin K2

And separate magnesium supplement in afternoon or evening

Come back with new post once you get FULL thyroid and vitamin test results and ranges

Suggest you get retested now

are you taking any B vitamins

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Post all about what time of day to test

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
