There are technical issues placing links in post titles. Hence I removed the link from the title. (Our guidelines do point this out.)
However, the link as posted does not, could not, work. It appeared to be a truncated link ending in "..." which appears when HealthUnlocked shortens links. So I looked at the Lancet website and found what might be the paper?
I have edited your post to point at this paper - and added a title so that people have some idea what they are being directed towards.
There are studies that show alternate day is superior for absorption and others that say it’s not.
Here’s a paper that looks at a group of studies all together:
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/379...
There is no significant increase in hemoglobin level and also the iron indices namely ferritin, hepcidin, total iron binding capacity, and reticulocyte count between daily and alternate-day dosing of iron. However, the frequency of adverse effects especially nausea, metallic taste, and altered bowel habits are reduced with alternate-day dosing. Oral iron given daily or on alternate days did not have a significant difference in the hemoglobin levels though iron absorption may be affected in the initial few days.
The science & biology behind hepcedin is real, but the effect in real life alternate day dosing is inconclusive.l for absorption. Likely helpful if taking iron salts (vs heme) though for GI upset if any.
