First, remember that we are all different. What one needs might be too much or not enough for someone else.

I often go to the USA's Office of Dietary Supplements. Being from the USA is a downside but it has consumer and professional versions of documents, they have lots of references and they are better than, for example, public NHS guidance.

The most common issues of vitamins would appear to be vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12. The most common issues of other nutrients are probably iron related.

Remember, too much can be every bit as bad as too little.

Hello Madge :

I now aim to maintain my ferritin at around 100- folate around 20 - active B12 125 ( serum B12 500++ ) and vitamin D at around 125.

I'm with Graves post RAI thyroid ablation 2005.

In addition to the good info you already have I’d add Zinc and Selenium in range.

My GP tested mine after supplements for 12 months and one was over and one was under.

The toughest bit for me is finding the right maintenance dose to keep those levels where they need to be. Sometimes it’s just taking 1 or 2 a week rather than every day.

And I’ll add in to this - zinc and copper should be at about a 1:1 ratio.

But like Helvella says not achievable for all e.g I can’t supplement zinc and copper because when I do I get over range copper and zinc doesn’t budge. GP said zinc only and hopefully copper will come down. We are all so different 🌱

When I tested my zinc and copper (I've only done it once because it was expensive) my zinc was low in range and my copper was slightly over the range.

Apparently this combination is common in hypothyroidism, but I'm not sure about hyperthyroidism.

I supplement zinc from time to time, but never copper.
