Hi it's me from the parathyroid4change group. You should get a reply soon from an admin. Have you had any thyroid tests previously at all or is their a reason you had your thyroid tested? Any information including the timing of your test and whether it was fasting will help with people replying. I know I'd feel very unwell with those levels though I have no thyroid. Symptoms aren't dissimilar to hyperparathyroidism either which complicates matters.

Well being hypothyroid could well be a cause of weight gain. I worked out your FT4 is only 11% through the range of 7.8-18 (from memory). You could check out ThyroidUK's list of underactive symptoms and see how many you fit with. Did your GP suggest any further tests or treatment? It's usually treated with levothyroxine which is synthetic T4. Many of us have been on it for decades. They'll need to check any underlying cause too though.

If you don't have obvious hypothyroid symptoms there's nothing to worry about. Your TSH is normal, your fT4 is in the lower part of its reference interval but this again is quite normal. The "range" is a "95% reference interval" made up from blood tests from healthy people. Most will have results near the middle but some will be near the top or bottom of the interval (and 5% will be a little outside). It's just a guide to where most people's results should lie. Hypothyroidism can cause some weight gain, so it looks like they were just excluding hypothyroidism before going ahead with the weight loss injections. You can check out hypothyroid signs and symptoms online, most people will have some but if you are hypothyroid there will be many and they will be quite obvious.

The group will need ranges for the results as they change from lab to lab.

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is completely inadequate

Suggest you get full thyroid and vitamin testing

Ft4 is at lower end of range

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO are high

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels

What vitamin supplements are you taking

VERY important to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
