I have been treated for Hasimotos since I was 19, now 64 and taking 150mcg thyroxine daily. I’ve read and learnt so much from this forum about Thyroid issues and I am wondering if anyone knows of a link between HCM and lack of T3?. My GP stopped my T3 about 5/6 years ago, saying that it was bad for the heart. I started having chest pain, palpitations, dizziness and have spent the last 5 years trying to get a diagnosis. Finally I now have a diagnosis of HCM. Could this thickening of the heart be due to a lack of T3? Any ideas or suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. My consultant is very vague about a link with Covid being responsible. Many thanks for all the advice on this forum

link with HCM and T3
hi, I’m not medical and have no direct experience, but my understanding is that t3 is essential for heart function, and your lived experience seems to confirm? Do you have latest (or series of) thyroid tests including t3? I asked an AI engine about a link between hcm/t3 and it gave me pages explaining Heart function and why a good t3 is essential for heart function, esp for hypos, including using t3 as an hcm therapy. I’d be tempted to print the ai output (with reference sources) and give to the doctor for discussion/homework.
I haven’t had any private blood tests for over a year but when in hospital last October for a suspected heart attack ( it wasn’t a heart attack but HCM)they did a TSH and it was 0.6 min/L
Any ft4/ ft3 ? If this started after t3 was removed then all tests before/after that are relevant to see the process. If you’ve got the nhs app you should be able to see any/all previous blood tests. My father’s heart issues were definitely from lack of appropriate hypo treatment.
I'm not sure what HCM is.
