Hello everyone i really need help and i hope someone can i am so confused.I am taking Levothyroxine i have been on them for about five months.I have been taking them for a for a year but only found the right brand for me about five months ago. My Dr not my own doctor i may add has put me on prozac for social anxiety i have had this condition for years.. But i told him i should not be taking them with Levothyroxine but he didn’t seem concerned.I took them for a couple of weeks and felt better but now i have stopped and made a appointment with my own Dr because i know they interacted with each other. Please has anyone been in the same situation Thank You ⭐️

There are other types of antidepressants that do not affect the absorption of Levothyroxine, so it’s certainly worth discussing this with a GP you feel most comfortable with. Your anxiety may have flared if you have suddenly stopped the Prozac, rather than gradually reducing over time.

Have you had your thyroid bloods checked recently? These should be checked 6-8 weeks after starting a medication that may interact with Levothyroxine.

Thank you my anxiety hasn’t flared up because i stopped them i wasn’t taking them long enough.I have a appointment only a phone call with my doctor it’s impossible to get a face to face appointment where i live i honestly want to stay on the prozac if possible my doctor will have to decide. They have no side effects i had them when i was younger. And i know other antidepressants have awful side effects i have tried so many over the years before i took Levothyroxine.. But thank you very much for answering my question i should be going for a blood test soon but my doctor thinks if you’re test comes back ok the first time then there is no need to keep having it checked.I have told him i want regular tests but i don’t think our doctors are well informed about thyroid problems ⭐️

Where is it written or what have you been told about not taking Prozac with Levo?

So long as you dont take them at the same time you should be OK I believe.

Hi i have googled it and it told me you should not take them as it can cause the Levothyroxine to slow down i am going to ask my own dr about it i dare’nt take the chance

How much levothyroxine are you now taking

Have you had next dose increase in levothyroxine to 75mcg

Bloods should be retested 2-3 months after each dose increase in levothyroxine

What were last ferritin, folate and B12 results

Hi thank you for replying i am on 50 mgs of Levothyroxine i have told my doctor i want regular check ups every three months he didn’t do it before he only checked once. I have not had my folate checked i am still taking folate and iron tbs.He told me i didn’t need B12 as they were normal.I really don’t have much confidence in my doctor. I know that isn’t a good thing to say ⭐️

as far as i can see , there is nothing to say you can't take prozac and levo ( separately obviously, not both at same time of day)

it's just that prozac may mean your dose of levo needs upping a bit to compensate , so if prozac suits you , the thing to do would take the prozac and then retest thyroid bloods 2 or 3 months later to see if the dose need increasing .... ie if TSH has gone up/ or if fT4 has gone down / or if you feel symptoms of hypo worsening .

if you have difficulty with GP's saying that if TSH is 'in range' they won't / can't increase dose , you can use this to help in negotiations with GP: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu.... -list-of-references-recommending-gps-keep-tsh-lower-in-range
