Blood Test Results

Hi I've just received my blood test results I am at present taking 50mg of levothyroxine and 25mg of T3. I am due to see the Endocologist on Wednesday with the view to increase the levothyroxine back to 100mg. My TSH has gone from 0.01 since Sept 2023 to 4.77 since my doctor decreased my levothyroxine from 100mg to 50mg. Any thoughts on my results would be appreciated.

Thank you

Sharon

Hi Shazbrett,

Thanks for your message, sorry you haven’t had any replies. It looks like you have been left on too high T3 as 50mcg T4 is only a starter dose of T4 and your FT4 is under range and your TSH is showing quite high.

Personally I’d stop the T3, up T4 to 75 for 8 weeks and test again then up to 100 for 8 weeks and test again and then consider T3

GP shouldn’t be meddling they clearly don’t know what they are doing 🤦🏽‍♀️

Meanwhile I’d sort those low folate, B12 etc. results with a B Complex

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Is this how you did your test

As per replies in detail on your last post 5 years ago….

This was when on 75mcg levothyroxine

you needed dose increase in Levo back then as Ft4 was too low

Only change doses SLOWLY

increase Levo by maximum of 25mcg ……back up to 75mcg initially

Retest again in 8-12 weeks

May need further adjustment after that
