T3 test of 3.3

I have been on levothroxine for 15 years at doses ranging from 100 to 125. However I feel depressed and very tired despite taking antidepressants. At a recent blood test my free T3 was 3.3. Is this normal or on the low side?

Hey Serena, do you happed to have the range there for your FT3 result?

It will look something like this but may have different numbers. Eg. 3.1-6.8

Knowing this will help answer your question.

If you happen to have an FT4 result too we can see how much FT4 you are converting to FT3. (My money is on… not much).

welcome back to the forum

You haven’t posted anything for a very long time

Was this test early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

What were TSH and Ft4

Please add range on Ft3 ….it looks low

Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking

Do you take levothyroxine on its own, on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour

Any other medication or vitamin supplement at least 2 hours away

Do you always get same brand

What vitamin supplements are you taking, if any

Is your hypothyroidism autoimmune

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Lower vitamin levels more common as we get older

For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
