I'm in week 3 of recovery from what I think was covid but possibly just a cold virus. It's been brutal. The main symptoms I'm left with are hypo ones, particularly extreme fatigue, anxiety and muscle aches.
I was on week 5 of a dose increase to 112.5mcg when I got sick. So now week 7. My plan was to test this week and work out of I should go up to 125mcg. However I obviously can't test for a while as it will be affected by the virus. Up to week 5 I was feeling fine, no signs of over medication etc.
I'm now not sure whether to put my dose up in the hope it helps me recover quicker?
I assume the virus has affected my conversion to T3 and hence the worsening on symptoms?
Would increased T4 even help as my body still has to convert it?
I'm worried about being over medicated but I'm also worried about it taking months to get my strength back. I've not long been back at work after having 5 months off
Any thoughts appreciated!
August 2024 (100 levo for 8 weeks)
TSH 1.81 (0.27-4.2)
T4 17.7 (12 - 22)
T3 4.9 (3.1 - 6.8)

I feel your pain. I was just knocked for 6 by a virus that may or may not have been Covid.
I kid you not, I felt so bad about 2 and a weeks in, I ordered a carbon monoxide detector to make sure I wasn’t being poisoned by my boiler. (Spoiler alert: I wasn’t).
So I think there are just some really horrible viruses out there at the moment. It took another few days to turn a corner but finally—about 3 and a half weeks later—I feel better. I also wondered about my thyroid hormone levels but ultimately just decided to wait and see. I didn’t change anything but feel fine again now.
I think I’d stick to 112.5mcg for another week or two and then test?
Oh Jazz, thank you! Yes I feel poisoned too!! But I've got a carbon monoxide alarm 🤣
It's been 17 days and I've just got gradually worse and worse. Wasn't sleeping well due to congestion but that has eased thankfully. Waiting (not very patiently) to turn a corner
There really are some horrible viruses about, I've heard alot of people been in bed for a week or so.
I'll leave my dose alone for a bit then, makes sense to let my body do its thing, just clutching at straws!
Thanks Dippy, yes I shall heed your advice and stay where I am for now.Sorry you are poorly too! It's an absolutely rubbish time of year. Sending healthy, get well vibes 🙏
Sorry to hear you're poorly and yes there are some really horrid viruses out there. I've just got over one, and I tested for covid a couple of times because it felt too bad to just be a cold!
When I was first diagnosed 30 years ago (!) I had a wonderful GP who seemed to know what she was talking about. She said it can take several weeks to settle with the right dose ie it's not an instant thing, if that makes sense. I would go very much by how you feel, once you've recovered from the virus. Keep on the 112.5 dose for now and retest in about a month's time. It maybe that taking 100mg one day and 112.5mg the next is an optimum dosage for you.
I have been on 125mcg since I was put on the correct dose, I have no problem apart from painfull knees. I have not bothered to query my dose, once a year I get a blood test, I am told I do not have an under active thyroid while I am taking the correct dose.
I was knocked out by covid a few months back and it took ages to recover. I wouldn't do thyroid tests as mine were off for a while. in fact it felt as if I became so over medicated I had to stop meds a few times. never done that before! hope you feel better soon 🙂
Oh crikey! It's the gift that keeps giving!! My anxiety has got really bad but that's also a hypo symptom for me, so I assumed that but now I don't know! Thank you, hope you're better now
I suffer anxiety also when hormones are wrong but I felt the doom-feeling when coming out of covid. It makes it difficult to make decisions about our health. I hope you feel better soon also.
