Endo dispensing own lio?!

3kitties profile image
29 Replies

Private endo just called to say he has a customer who is from Greece and has an NHS pharmacist friend who gets supply of liothyronine from Greece. The Dr has a supply he can sell me if I meet him near the hospital as it’s not usual for them to dispense meds. Then I just transfer him the money. Is this weird/legal?

Thank you!

To me it doesnt sound at all legal and if the BMA found out about it he'd be in trouble. He might just be trying to do you a favour but I'm not sure I would want to be involved with such an arrangement myself.

How do you normally get your T3 from him?

Yes, via prescription then order from online pharmacy since 2022. He said it was slightly cheaper doing it like that but I’m happy just to get the prescription! He promised to do an application to NHS but I’m still waiting 2 years on 🤷🏻‍♀️

Has he said what brand he will supply and what brand do you usually have? Likely the Greek brand will be different to what you are used to.

Up to you but it sounds decidedly dodgy.

I asked brand but didn’t give it to me. I don’t know the brand I have but it will def be different! I’ve gone back & just asked for regular prescription.

Why don't you know the brand you have?

Does it not come in its own (manufacturer's) packaging?

If you describe the tablet markings, we can easily identify them.

That is quite a red flag 🚩 I wonder what has driven him to such an unprofessional approach. I’m an old cynic but what is his angle? More margin on the illegal import? Leverage against you becoming reliant on him? Hoping you get him customers here? From what I can tell sources in Greece dry up quickly. I’d stay with legitimate sources if it was me.

He just said surplus medication? First I thought a customer had given it him as they didn’t require it! To be fair I’m already reliant contacting him every time to get a prescription it’s such a pain.

Sounds decidedly iffy, wanting you to meet him in outside the hospital like some meth dealer. Also you dont know the provenance of this T3, could be fake for all you know. I'm very surprised that he is potentially risking his medical licence by doing this. If you or another patient decided to report him he could be in deep kaka.

Was a price mentioned?

Think he said £150 for 240 tablets.

helvella profile image

That is much, much higher than Greek Unipharma used to be. And quite similar to Thybon Henning from Roseway.

I pay slightly more than that but at least I know it’s legit!

Gosh! That sounds quite dodgy. He’s taking quite a risk doing that sort of thing as well as putting you in an awkward situation plus you don’t want to be dependent on an illegal source. What if he moves on or gets the sack, it could get very complicated.

I thought that too! Glad it’s not just me!

sounds well dodgy, illegal with some back handers going on. Sounds like he needs reporting

Would it be possible to change to another Endo? This guy really doesn’t sound like a good person to be looking after you.

This is a red flag.

For context, I work in the NHS. Basically any behaviour like this where we can work in direct competition with our NHS job and benefit financially from it is fraud and you can be a) reported to your professional body (you can do this - helpful if you have something in writing!) and b) someone can lose their job and c) be struck off from their professional body or recommended for some sort of intervention/training depending on severity.

Not sure how it works privately but still doesn’t sound right.

There is usually a complaints procedure in hospitals or you could try BMA website link here:

"where we can work in direct competition with our NHS job and benefit financially from it is fraud"

How does this square with nurses and doctors and others doing private work?

I'm not against people being free to use their time to do other work it just seems the above definition of fraud is at odds with what actually happens in the medical industry.

Doesn’t sound right to me. Can’t you ask him for a prescription for Thybon Henning and get that brand from Roseway Pharmacy for £60 for x100 tablets. They are 20mcg strength which can easily be cut. That’s what I do.

That sounds rather odd for an endo! But t3 is available OTC in Greece. The brand is UNI pharma, and I used to have a friend who sent me a yearly supply. I now buy online instead as she can’t get them. I’ll DM you.

I have previously bought T3 from Greece ( Thybon ) but when I was there this summer I was told it had been withdrawn from their market . Unless he has old stock how can he get hold of it ?

Seriously heard it all now (famous last words) ether this post isn't genuine or this Endo needs reporting ASP

I am prescribed T3 here in France but if I need extra I buy online 100 tablets for about £23.

Furtive drug deals around the back of hospitals with an endo - what a state the NHS is.

DippyDame profile image

I'd suggest you steer well clear of this lot!

It sounds as if this endo's offer is at best questionable as does his proposed clandestine delivery of the T3.

Never heard on an endo having " customers"...., patients, even clients, yes.

Where is he based, would like to avoid him!😩

So this bloke you vaguely know wants to meet you somewhere quiet where he will hand over 'something' and you give him money for it?

Sounds very much like an illicit drug deal to me.

Find a new Endo sharpish.

To put this into perspective, I purchased a couple of one-month (30 tab) supply packets of Uni-Parma T3 25mcg from separate pharmacies in Greece last summer while I was on holiday at a price-controlled retail cost to me of 2.30 euros. Yes, you read that correctly, a couple of quid for 30 x 25mcg tabs. And, before you ask, their expiry date is Jun 2025.

Just in case the scammers that lurk here contact you with a source of T3 I will post the usual warning that you should action.

⚠️ IMPORTANT! When you receive a message with a recommendation, please do not assume it is genuine!

Scammers are joining the forum on a very regular basis and messaging members with their assertions that they have successfully purchased xyz medication from zyx source.

Once you have what you think may be a genuine recommendation, you are strongly encouraged to message an Admin to ask whether the admin team have any feedback on the source you've been given.

⚠️ Don't part with your much needed money until you are as sure as you can be that the source is genuine.
