I’ve been self medicating 75 mcg Levo and been getting on ok, some days a bit tired but mostly doable. I’ve trialed Levo before but never got any further than 62.5 where I gave up as I felt awful. I’ve been on 75 for 4 weeks, no problems and today I added 3 T3 as I felt tired again, probably adrenal related. Anyway, I’ve had a very good, energetic day and just wondered if it’s possible for such a low dose to make such a difference? I’ll be testing again in a few weeks. Any thoughts gratefully received.
Can 3mcg T3 make a huge difference?: I’ve been... - Thyroid UK
Can 3mcg T3 make a huge difference?
Yes, absolutely it can be just that little bit that you need hopefully without adding too much stress to your tired adrenals, many people think more is better but it just isn't the case
Many thanks TiggerMe - it’s been quite transformative! I’ve trialed T3 before - with Levo and in NDT and glandulars, too much doesn’t work for me at all, even 6mc was too much, presumably the adrenal thing, but this tiny amount seems to be just the thing, I hope it continues….
I’m so pleased to read you’re feeling better! How did you get hold of the T3 if you don’t mind me asking? (Also on 75mcg and feel awful still)
Thank you CAB123x - I honestly can’t remember where I got the T3, it was through some desperate plea for help on here. I can check and get back to you? I can’t quite believe that such a small addition can make so much difference and I’m truly hoping it lasts. I’ll update on my progress.
What made you need T3 as well as T4 if you don’t mind me asking? Current symptoms for me are:
Brain fog
Fatigue
Anxiety
Depression
Xx
Well, I’ve been self medicating and treated by so-called specialists for around 3 years now. When I tried Levo solo I found that I am a good converter but I never really felt quite ‘right’ still a bit not in the game. I added 3 then 6 then 9 t3 to my Levo and through sheer greed I missed the fact that 3 was probably enough. I felt good and the ‘fear’ of that going away made me increase too much and I missed the best dose. I’ve never been as high as 75 Levo so that’s probably part of the puzzle too. I can’t make too many assumptions as this is only day 1, but it’s been a very different kind of day, much more like the ‘me’ I remember from 4 years ago before I crashed. I know I’ve had low adrenal output as I’ve tested that and that’s possibly why I can’t tolerate too much t3 in one go, although I may need an increase in time, I’ll see how it goes, but I’m in no rush this feels good for now. I’ve also tried armour but the dose prescribed was way too high and I felt awful around week 2-3, but pretty good in the 1st week. I’ve also tried metavive at varying doses, again moving too quickly in order to ‘catch’ or ‘keep’ the good feeling when actually I completely overshot it. I know I can feel really well with T3 and adding it in such a small dose has been interesting and revealing. I’ve had all the symptoms you describe and I’ve recently increased my HRT dose including testosterone which had previously been underage so that might be having an impact. Have you had sex hormones tested?
Wow that’s so interesting because apparently my conversion is fine but I still feel so unwell! Maybe a small dose of t3 is what I need. I just want to feel better to be able to be a mum to my two babies again!! No I’ve never had those tested? Do you know how you can get those tested? And do you recommend any specialists who could potentially prescribe t3? X
Medichecks do a really good female hormone testing panel as does monitor my health. Randox has a special arm blood testing gadget that they use for sex hormones as it’s recommended that a venous draw rather than a home finger prick test is used for sex hormone testing. Finger prick is fine for thyroid but it’s proved a bit wonky with sex hormones. In fact I think Medichecks now insist on a venous draw because of all the extra kits they had to send out when people had 77,000 pmol oestrogen results. If you’ve got babies, it may well be post pregnancy related thyroid problem. Post a question asking about that, I don’t know enough but suspect that may be where my problem started, I’ve never felt quite right since my pregnancies and suffered with post pregnancy depression twice. My conversion always seemed fine but from reading around apparently a very small dose of T3 can boost the conversion and that’s exactly what it feels like. I’m afraid I’ve had nothing but bad luck with ‘specialists’ but if you post asking for recommendations in your area, people will get back to you. Thyroid UK also has a list of their approved NHS and private thyroid doctors, I’m not sure who you contact, someone on here will know.
Honestly CAB123x in the first instance ask your GP for a full sex hormone test. If you’re a new mum and feeling rubbish there’s a good chance there’s something awry with sex hormones. How I wish I knew this 28 years ago when they stuck me on anti depressants I didn’t need… DO NOT let them do that to you, I’d put my house on one or more of your hormones needing tweaked.
hi all, just to keep you updated I had my results through today, 8 weeks ago I was increased from 50 to 75, do we think we need to ask to trial 100?
