HRT and thyroid medication

Is it safe to take HRT with thyroid medication? Does taking the two together increase your risk of cancer ?

Both are just aiming to restore hormone levels to a healthy level, whether that is likely to increase or decrease cancer risk I would think is very hard to know 🤷‍♀️

The sort of existence with low hormone levels is also to be added into the equation

There is no additional cancer risk to either medication and your Thyroid meds Need the oestrogen to be optimal in order to work efficiently. That's what my private endocrinologist told me

Hi! From available articles that I’ve read, on the contraindications between HRT and thyroid medication (hormone replacement therapies for biological females), there does not appear to be an increased risk of cancer. A few papers/articles are linked below.

However, our pathophysiologies are complex and unique, so risk probabilities depend on so many factors including amount, type and delivery methods of the medication taken, prevailing comorbidities etc.

If you are able to discuss your concerns with your prescribing physician, they should be able explain the specific risks for you and/or allay fears.

Thank you for this. Do you have to combine it with an oestrogen cream aswell or is it safe by itself? I’ve been using wild yam cream, which has got rid of all aches and pains but not anxiety. I might give it a rest and try your one for 6months. Thanks

Wellsprings offer 2 creams one Oestrogen only othe one has small amount Progestrogen as well. I am 72 year old and use the second one, used the first one for years since I had my Hysterectomy at age 41. Couldnt get on with HRT at all and found this worked for me. If you go on to Wellsprings site you will find all the details of there products and what they do. They are also very helpful if you need more advice as you can email them and they do answer.
