Does anyone know...

So, for about two weeks I've had a symptom that could fit with multiple explanations. Hot flashes.

My first guess would be my hrt needs changing... But I ALWAYS get stiff joints before hot flashes start and my joints are normal.

Maybe a hypo thing.

Maybe related to my post viral dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system.

I tried to Google if this could also be a side effect of reducing bisoprolol but can't find an answer. About three weeks ago my dose was reduced from 5 over the day to 3.75. (I'm insisting on no further increaees for now as it's not doing what they hoped).

Any thoughts?

Could it be an adrenaline rush?

I hadn't thought of that.

Would tie in with this bit... Maybe related to my post viral dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system.

Do you have a reasonable salt and vit C intake?

Obsdian profile image
Obsdian in reply toTiggerMe

I don't know how to measure my salt but I assume so.

I thought one of my supplements had vit C in it but looked just now and ot doesn't. Diet-wise I tend to eat oranges and tomatoes.

Check back on your blood test results I expect you've had a serum sodium result?... adrenals run on salt and vit c, trouble is we have been in an age where salt is seen as a villain and some don't get enough

You're right, have had about every test and found that too. Looks fairly middle of the range to me.

140 mmol/L

Range:133 - 146 mmol/L

It's one of those that is better mid range or slightly above I seem to remember SlowDragon recommending

Thanks as so often TiggerMe for your helpful and informative posts. I think this might be my problem, I have rushes of heat, like the poster not quite the same as menopausal flushes, these last longer and are not so extreme and I have recently started wanting to add salt to almost everything I eat and longing for salted crisps. Also stopped taking Vit C some months ago. I would be interested to know more please if you don't mind expanding? Thanks :)

I think this is a pretty good article 🤗... ibrainandbody.com/the-stres...

Interesting.

I had reasonable t4 to t3 conversion before, but now it's going the wrong way. One of several reasons my GP is referring me to the endocrinologist again (was rejected the first time when the only reason was hashimoto's).

I also struggling with some things in their list, caffeine, sugar, artificial sugars.

Thank you Obsdian for letting me 'borrow' your post. Good luck with finding your resolution.

I don't mind at all. Lots of us have similar issues and maybe can add good follow on questions.

Thank you TiggerMe, I will have a look later, heading towards a collapse on the sofa now ..

Assume you have ruled out menopause and HRT needing a tweak? That would be the obvious thing to consider given the symptoms.

Obsdian profile image
Obsdian in reply toFlamingo60

That's my first thought but... I used to go up and down like a roller coaster and hot flashes was the last symptom to return not the first. Normally I get very stiff ankles and knees in the morning (they're fine) and the start getting muscle aches. So has me feeling uncertain.

I don't know, but I get the same problem so sympathise! Mine started when NDT was increased too quickly and my adrenals couldn't keep up; I'm trying to sort the adrenals and hope that will resolve it. There's a theory that adrenals when working correctly pick up production of sex hormones; also as Tigger says, running on adrenaline instead of cortisol is quite "hot".

Basically I don't really know either but sending sympathy and i'll watch the thread with interest.

I'm just nervous to trial more estrogen after finally being so stable. So much is going on I don't want to imbalance anything else if it's not the problem.

Fed up with being complicated.

I’m not sure how you take your oestrogen but I found I was having surges and heat when I woke through the night and first thing in the morning. When I had a blood test I found out I wasn’t absorbing properly through the Everol patches I was using. I changed to Estrodot and had another blood test 2 months later which showed my oestrogen had doubled. I’m post menopause and 62 years old. The change improved sleep and stopped the surges.

I take it as gel as I am allergic to adhesive on plasters and such.

Your comment makes me wonder something now. I apply my gel in the evening and I get more of my hot flashes towards the afternoon and evening now that I think about it. Maybe I am slightly running out by the time a new application is due.... Unless there is some other cause.

Billycasper profile image
Billycasper in reply toObsdian

Might be worth a change just to see if that is the cause. I know it’s all very complicated though especially having a thyroid problem too.

Obsdian in reply toBillycasper

Yes, maybe I need to get over worrying about upsetting things and see.

Another thing to think about - are you eating something you dont normally eat? A hot flash can be the first indication of food allergy.

Hmmm... Not sure. Have had some alpro soya puddings over the last few weeks.
