I like it, find it very useful against Candida. I think it works well. Not to be taken long term as could wipe out good bacteria too.
Used to take it to help with my breathing. Didn't notice any effect on my gut. Didn't do anything for my lungs, either!
I have not used oregano oil, but have used oregano leaves steeped in hot water to aid gastritis type symptoms and did find this soothing.
Bertwills greygoose thanks team... I've just added it to my pasta and it tastes fantastic!
I'd obviously read something that made me order some as it has just arrived (totally forgotten about thanks to Fridays migraine... well that's my excuse 😬)
I've now come across this... drberg.com/blog/14-amazing-...
Think I'd picked up on the histamine lowering properties initially... but I also have one raised metabolite arabinose suggesting candida.... I shall trial it for 2 weeks, thanks for the warning Bert 🤗
Are you going to eat pasta every day for two weeks? Or can you put it on other food? Mine came in capsules, and I swallowed them.
That would make life easy wouldn't it 😏 it's not to be taken neat needs adding to a carrier oil so can just take with a spoonful of olive oil
Don't think I could do that. Reminds me of being a child and having to swallow a spoonful of cod liver oil. Ugh!
I use Zane Hellas capsules and liquid
I take it for a couple of weeks 2-3 times a year and it works in calming my stomach. I believe I’ve had candida for decades
Also use it when I make a ragu sauce, it really elevates it
Can be used in a carrier oil on wounds to prevent/treat infection. Worked almost instantly when I allowed a finger wound to get infected
Good luck
Excellent, this is what I'm thinking of doing as I do have slightly raised yeast levels... it does pack a flavour punch to doesn't it 😅
Mother in law was Italian. She taught me all about it
A drop in about an eggcup of olive oil mixed with a bit of crushed garlic and eaten with crusty French bread or ciabatta is a simple and very more-ish delight
I’m GF now and miss those sorts of things
My garlic bread intake is certainly going to spike a couple of times a year 😁
I guess I alwasy think of oregano oil as a bit of a faddy thing from a few years ago. It's not something that I've come across much...taking essential oils internally is a specialist area as they can be harmful. Drinking your aromatics as tea can help with digestion though - thyme, rosemary, mint, oregano, sage, hyssop - they all have those carminative actions (and plenty of other benefits besides!)
I haven't taken oregano oil religiously because I find it rather expensive but I've taken it for a few weeks then stopped on a few occasions. I think it helps with inflammation in my gut.
Thanks Bean that's good to know, I shall give it a fortnight 🤗
Sounds like a good plan.
The ones I have used are from a Greek company called Zane Hellas and they sell it in various forms. I buy capsules/softgels. I was recommended these by the late SeasideSusie.
I have also tried a cheaper brand - Oregano Oil capsules by Swanson. They are okay too but not as good as the Greek ones.
I use Oil of Oregano when it is needed, ie to treat an infection. I wouldn't use for a chronic complaint. To improve gut health I take Water Kefir that I make myself. Here are the instructions. decdun.me.uk/Kefir/Water_ke...
Hypopotamus, Thanks for the recipe link.
Just want to add a word of caution, because anyone who has, or thinks they may have histamine intolerance, may need to steer clear of fermented foods such as kefir.
Could you expand on this please. I eat kimchi daily and have a histamine intolerance. I've been itching for 4 days straight and even Piriton doesn't help 😔
Foods that are fermented or aged, have higher histamine content. This typically causes stomach related issues. Put fermented foods histamine intolerance into your favourite search engine, and you'll find lots of articles about this.
Here's a link to one article that lists potential foods that may be a problem for someone with histamine intolerance. allergyuk.org/resources/his...
Not all anti-histamines work for any individual or all symptoms. So if one doesn't help, try another. Piriton is the branded (i.e. more expensive) version of generic chlorphenamine maleate, which I found effective for a few years, but now generic Cetirizine works best for me most of the time if I get a reaction. But I still do have to permanently avoid quite a few foods, most especially feremented and aged foods.
I bought Spring Blossom Superfoods, Wild Oil of Oregano quite some time ago , which is stronger and cheaper , I think, than the one you have bought. I haven't used it. I bought for a chronic U.T.I. The reason I haven't used it is due to it possibly slowing blood clotting and increasing the risk of bleeding in some people.
I take daily Naproxen, which blocks aggregation of platelets, an essential step in blood clotting, and this can increase the time it takes for bleeding to stop. Naproxen shouldn't be combined with blood thinners, such as antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications. When I took one Turmeric/Curcumin tablet, I coughed up blood the following 2 days. I don't intend to take a second tablet. It increases the risk of dangerous bleeding if taken with prescribed anticoagulants and/or antiplatelets. (Naproxen) I took one drop of liquid Vit A on a separate occasion for a couple of days only, and passed blood in my urine. Vit A can slow blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding if on blood thinners. I have a full bottle of liquid Vit A with a couple of drops out of it, and won't use that again either. I think I was passing blood both times because I shouldn't use Vit A or Turmeric/Curcumin in combination with Naproxen. I believe, for me, on Naproxen, Oil of Oregano is something I need to avoid.
You probably don't take Naproxen, but if you do , Oil of Oregano might be problematic.
