T3 trial

I’ve been fortunate to have been given a trial of T3 on the NHS 😊👏🏼 The pharmacy weren’t able to supply immediately, as they had to order it in.

What can I expect, health wise in the next few weeks? Does it have a dramatic effect, or does it take months for any noticeable changes ?

I understand that everyone is different, but wanted some feedback from this wonderful community.

Well done!

You will possibly notice a difference in the first few days. My brain worked better almost immediately. Full benefits will build up gradually over a few weeks to months.

What has your Endo prescribed - dose? How much Levo have you been asked to drop?

Its recommended to only start with 5mcgs for a few weeks until you know you feel OK with that and then add a further 5 mcgs as a second dose later in the day - late afternoon.

Starting on too much right away can cause intolerance and some nasty symptoms.

I see you had some low vitamin levels some months ago. Are you now supplementing these to optimal?

What supplements are you taking?

Hello Jaydee1507

I’m on 112.5 levothyroxine at the moment, but to be reduced to 75mcg when I start the T3 dose which is 5mcg twice daily.

I’m taking iron tablets, have recently stopped taking vitamin d.

I’ve had every blood test available to rule out other causes of my symptoms and all, apart from low vitamin d, are normal.

I can’t wait to start my trial, hopefully tomorrow 🤞

That's a big drop in T4!! Are you very high in range for fT4?

Stick with the rule 'only change one thing at a time' I wouldn't drop your T4 dose until after your first blood test after adding T3 as it can drop your fT4 quite significantly

I'll pm you 😉

I agree with the others, start off slow with T3 maybe 5mcg first thing with your levo. Its much more potent than levo and the symptoms of too much T3 are not good.I also wouldn't drop levo too much to begin with.A daily drop of 37.5 is quite a chunk.I felt a big difference within minutes of adding T3.The brain fog I had suffered more or less for two years lifted almost immediately.I started on 6.25mcg daily and have stayed at that dose.My T3 went from 50% to over 80%. Best of luck, hope it does the trick for you.

Hi

Can I please ask which NHS Authority has prescribed T3? Hope it helps you.

Congratulations 🎉

Everyone is different with their T3 absorption. I take my full dose of T3 first thing in the morning with two coffees & no food. About 20 minutes after I've taken my T3 I feel my brain ping because my T3 is in my system & working.

can i join the trial? Is it based on the area you live in? I’m in south London and my doctor said he can’t get to, so would be great to get your incite on what you did. Many thanks

You'd need an Endo referral as GP's can't prescribe T3 but you need to request the referral... thyroiduk.org/contact-us/ge...

yes, that’s what I’m in the process of doing, but just incase the endoc doesn’t know about it, I was wondering how I went about it? The link sent is for a List of Private GPs and Practitioners, but I have a consultant at St George’s hospital in tooting. Many thanks

You'd hope a Consultant would be up to speed but some are totally anti T3 😕

Just looking at your most recent results and you are certainly under replaced at the moment, how much T4 are you on?

my tsh had gone up to 5.6 with my t3/4 on the lower end. I’m not on any medication currently, but my conversion from t4 to t3 is low, so if things continue to get worse then I thought it would be better to just get a direct source. I’m not keen on just taking t4 on its own

Sorry, we are confusing Pastelart by hijacking her thread

T4 is always the best place to start
