Help with obtaining medication

Dear community I don’t know if I am allowed to post this and I am a complete novice to social chats I struggle to keep up with family what’s app groups but here goes.

I was told by my doctor after giving birth to my daughter I was having an awful time she was ill I felt terrible and couldn’t stop crying that I had Myxodema ! This was in 2006 since then I then I have been on a varied dose of medication ranging from 100-200mcg of levothroxin.

Sorry if wrong spelling I have dyslexia,

I did try NDT through a friend about 10 years ago and it really made a difference for a few years.

I would like some advice on obtaining NDT again as I am sick of feeling ill.

I am just getting over having pneumonia and exasperated asthma currently and have been on steroids for 6 weeks which isn’t helping my thyroid,

My 17 year old daughter also has a thyroid issue through me and is taking 75mcg of Levi thyroxine and has terrible symptoms too I would like to alleviate my guilt from giving her this with the help of NDT,

Is this ok or is she too young ?

We both have also polysistic ovary syndrome too.

Can anyone advise ?

Thanks

Asking for possible sources of supply is allowed.

If you have not already done so, adding some information to your profile might help and encourage replies.

In particular, if you are not within the UK, please make this clear. Some potential suppliers will only supply specific countries.

As we can't name suppliers on the forum, any replies must be by Private Messages (also called Chat).

We USUALLY then close the post to replies to prevent any information being posted here. You might already have requested Private Messages.

HOWEVER - as this is a first post and is asking lots more than a source - I WILL LEAVE IT OPEN.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY SUPPLIER INFORMATION IN REPLIES

Once the post is closed, there can be no further replies on forum. It is best to ask for sources in a a separate post. And to make sure to give sufficient details as they cannot be added later.

To avoid being scammed by unscrupulous suppliers who we know contact members when requesting suppliers of thyroid meds, you are encouraged to contact a member of the Admin team to see if we have any feedback on any recommendations that you are sent. Please read the post linked to below and don't part with any money until you have checked any supplier information with an admin.

However, admins cannot make any recommendations themselves. This is expressly prohibited so do not ask us to do so.

You will find few, if any, of the potential suppliers accept the best known and most trustworthy forms of payment such as PayPal and credit cards. The major payment companies are very wary of medicine suppliers.

Thanks - you are doing fine! :-)

Much of my reply was a standard text and, while I modified it a bit, it is still rather general.

Hello Poppit and welcome to the forum :

Don't worry about the dyslexia - I have that too -

your post makes perfect sense and we are not here to judge or question your written ability but to try and help you find some better way forward for your thyroid health and well being.

You went through a horrible child birth and carrying this guilt about your offspring has become bigger with time and if you want to explode - do that on here - it's a safe place -

and you need to forgive yourself, none of this was your fault, you are not alone so lets share this weight building up inside of you.

Were you ever well on T4 - Levothyroxine - you have been on various doses - were you ever referred to an endocrinologist and treated with any other form of thyroid hormone replacement - T3 Liothyrinine or Thyroid Extract ?

Do you know if you were diagnosed with a thyroid Auto Immune disease - Hashimoto's ?

Do you have gut and stomach bloating and find certain foods upset you ?

Do you take T4 on an empty stomach and wait around an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water - as per Patient Information Leaflet ( PIL ) ?

Levothyroxine T4 - is a pro-hormone and needs to be converted in the body into T3 which is the active hormone that runs the body - and much like fuel runs a car - with enough T4 in the tank you then have back some energy and stamina to get you through the day -

and your thyroid much like a gear box is responsible for full synchronisation of all your bodily functions from your mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual well being through to your inner central heating system and your metabolism.

In order for T4 to convert well in the body into T3 - we do need optimal levels of core strength vitamins and minerals - and these are ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D -

conversion of T4 into T3 can also be down regulated by inflammation, antibodies, any physiological stress ( emotional or physical ) depression, dieting and ageing - so yes - goal posts move and nothing is a straight forward fix.

NDT contains both T3 and T4 thyroid hormones and probably why you felt better on this full spectrum thyroid hormone replacement -

it is still meant to be available on the NHS - but I gave up and now source my own.

So - the first step - irrespective of what treatment option you wish to go forward with -

is to get a full thyroid panel + vitamins and minerals + inflammation, antibodies etc run and then post the results and ranges back up on this forum in a new question/post - and then we can advise on your next best step back to better health -

If your doctor isn't able to run this blood test for you -

go into Thyroid UK - thyroiduk.org - who are the charity who support this forum and there is page within the website detailing several Private blood companies who can run the relevant blood test for you -

it's around 10/11 biomarkers - and sometimes referred to as an advanced thyroid function blood test : TSH + T3 + T4 + inflammation, antibodies, ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D :

Arrange an early morning - by 9.00 am appointment for the blood draw -

if taking any supplements stop these around a week before hand so we measure what you body is holding and not that just ingested -

and fast over night just taking in water and take your T4 - Levothyroxine AFTER the blood draw - so leaving around a 24 hour window since your last dose of T4 - and so we measure what your body is holding rather than that just ingested.

Thanks so much for your help,

I was referred to an endocrinologist for my PCOS not thyroid and was given metformin a a diabetics medication that made me feel sick,

I was only ever diagnosed with an under active thyroid I am sure it was due to being in a car crash a year before,

Both me and my daughter follow the correct instructions in taking the levythroxine

My daughter suffers with bloating and food does upset her stomach she has stopped eating meat and gluten currently I am fine.

I am going to book a blood test for myself straight away,

Thanks

Ok then - I hope I've covered all the bases I needed to - if not and unsure about anything just ask -

We can all read everything that you write on this open patient to patient forum-

In order to reply to a certain person you need to make sure you reply using the reply button within their post and their name automatically prints out as then they are notified they have a message - which you have done :

You can also reply by using @ directly before you start typing their name - and you should be offered a tab of everybody's name option as you start to type - eg -  Poppit77 -

If you get lost reading around on the forum simply press your Profile icon - sitting alongside Chat/Post/Alerts / etc - top right on my lap top - so maybe bottom left on a phone - no idea - I'm a tech disaster area - and this takes you back to everything you have written and all your replies on the forum -

If you want to read anybody else's Profile simply press their icon sitting alongside anything they have written :

Try and arrange that the bloods are posted back on a Monday/Tuesday as then they should be analysed and completed before Friday so without them sitting in a lab over the weekend congealing and not as ' fresh ' as they could have been :
