Just had a phone call from my nhs pharmacy who have stated that they are unable to get Thybon Henning as it costs £1,000.00 a box.Is this true? Or maybe just a ployto get me to use the capsules nhs prescribe?

That doesn’t ring true.

See this post from last year healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Might be worth ringing round a bit.

Lots of people on T-H here on the forum so hopefully you’ll get some more advice shortly.

Thats absolutely not true. Which pharmacy is this?

Thybon Henning costs around 50-60p per tablet for 20mcgs.

You might have to take the prescription to one of the specialist pharmacies on the T UK list, well phone them then post it. Just phone around.

Is Thybon Henning marked on your prescription?

Yes, but I have to request it from endo secretary

'Thybon Henning as it costs £1,000.00 a box'

There's a few too many zeros in that number!

As I understand it, Thybon Henning T3 is not a licensed medicine for the NHS.

I've just found this link to the GMC website about prescribing unlicensed medicines.

gmc-uk.org/professional-sta....

I get mine with a private prescription and I pay for the prescription and the medicine and the consultation with my private doctor.

If a drug isn’t licensed I was about to say the same my endocrinologist wouldn’t prescribe Thybon Henning had to be other makes.

Thybon Henning is not licensed in the UK. (As others have said.)

It can only be obtained if a doctor supplies a letter justifying it being supplied - rather than any other liothyronine. The pharmacy would then have to obtain it through a company which has a license to import medicines. They can charge an absolute fortune. The pharmacy cannot import it for themselves - it is against the rules.

So:

£1,000.00 is suspiciously round number! I don't believe it.

However, it could be astronomically priced.

And blame the importing company for the massive mark-up.

However:

While you have been taking Thybon Henning, do you have any reason to avoid another product which does have a UK license?

Hi, because I'm so much better after starting thybon, I'm very anxious about taking any other brand. However, when I find sweet spot, I may trial Roma

Or try Teva 20mcg as it’s lactose free like Thybon

current prices of NHS T3

Thybon Henning would be a “special “ as not licensed

Pharmacies can charge what ever they like for “specials”

Just to note that it might be a good idea to try another product sooner rather than later.

Simply, it is best to do so while you still have a reasonable amount of the original product left. Then, if trying it doesn't work out, you can revert to what you already have in hand.

Otherwise, you can end up changing and struggling to get back to the original product.

This is a general observation and has to be taken into account with all the other circumstances.

Thanks, I didn't think about that. I've got bloods private and nhs on 5th August. I do feel I may need a slight increase with t3 and possibly levothyroxine. I'm hoping one or two more changes might have my bloods at a good level. When my bloods are satisfactory, I'll consider trialing Roma

I have tried other T3 but none suited me as well as Thybon. You can get it from Roseways for 60p a tablet. You just need your endo to name it on prescription and they can send directly to Roseways or you can.

Unfortunately the NHS agreed to fund my T3 after a lot of wrangling but then couldn't supply Thybon nor could I get only one brand or anything I could cut to make 10mcg as I need 30mcg a day. It became too much hassle so I prefer to pay for what I want.

Hi, yes,I request my brand specific prescription from my endo, stating I'm good on thybon and will trial Roma when my blood levels are sorted

Depending on your total dose per day and wether you split your dose then capsules can be more expensive than NHS brands of tablets

I get 100 20mcg Thybon Henning for £60 from a bona fide source here in the UK, who are also my prescriber.

No wonder the NHS is in such a mess if they are incapable of finding suppliers who don't rip them off. £1000 a box. Really???

I get my TH from Roseway Labs. £60 a box!!

Definitely try Roseway. I'm pretty sure they will take NHS and private prescriptions.

I hope you don't mind me asking but do you travel abroad to get the Thybon Henning?

Geegee777 profile image
Geegee777 in reply toKai2

No I don't, but I'm thinking of trialling Roma when my bloods are sorted, hopefully not much longer
