Expensive tests

Looking at the Thyroid UK website. Even with their discounts I can’t afford these private tests. I’m still waiting for my medical records. I’ve chased so many times and finally someone at my surgery told me turnaround time is a month so waiting to chase again after that period has finished. With my surgery you have to chase everything at least 3 times until you get it. In the meantime does anyone know of any cheaper tests I could do that give you the results people look to load onto here to discuss? See if I need to take any supplements or what not?

GP said she would refer me to dietician if I wanted due to cutting out so many things, do you think they would do the relevant tests on the NHS?

I had never previously had key nutrients tested, (or even known they were relevant before finding this site) but had success with my GP by saying these are the tests recommended by Thyroid UK. Most recently, the endo wasn't so lucky - I'd managed to get him to ask him for the full set of tests (a first in itself) - again by saying they were the tests recommended by Thyroid UK - but the hospital lab refused to do the vit d test he'd asked for! My GP said that vit D is the hardest test to get done ...

So may be worth a try?

Oh gosh. It’s just so hard to get anywhere with my surgery. I’m moving in a year back to where I grew up and the surgery there is much better. I’ll deffo give it a go there! Or maybe I’ll try in four months time when I have my next follow up... but I’m just so exhausted from pushing on everything so far I just need a break from it 😅. Good to hear that it can be done though!

Sadly,I think the NHS these days is simply about keeping us alive at the most basic of levels. It is a bad state of affairs when a lab tells a Dr they can not have a simple Vit D Test they have requested. The lab is not treating you - your Dr is. My Endo said same thing when we ran through my private testing so far. He openly said that the NHS would not test the things I have paid to be tested for.

Please be aware that the MonitorMyHealth test is just thyroid - TSH, FT4 and FT3.

If you want to know what supplements you may need you will have nutrients tested - Vit D, B12, Folate, Ferritin, and will need a thyroid/vitamin bundle from Blue Horizon or Medichecks.

Ohhhh boother. That’s good to know. Well I’ll wait and see what my medical records come back with and then hope that my surgery has done them/ will do them for me.

GP should test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 as you have Hashimoto’s

NHS England Liothyronine guidelines July 2019 clearly state on page 13 that TSH should be between 0.4-1.5 when treated with just Levothyroxine

Note that it says test should be in morning BEFORE taking Levo thyroxine

Also to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
