BNF cytomel liothyronine

Just gathering info pre endo phone appt in August. Am currently prescribed 37.5mcg ACE Dutch licenced cynomel through NHS, 25mcg tabs. Brand isn't working for me. I notice BNF list American Cytomel 25mcg. Is anyone managing to find a pharmacy which can source this for NHS? No names needed, just checking whether it would be a realistic swap. Thanks in advance.

Ace liothyronine is called Cytomel (not cynomel). It is their own product and they have registered the name in Netherlands.

USA (Pfizer/King) Cytomel is listed on the NHS' dm+d database (which feeds into BNF) but as a special import.

I suspect that it would be pretty much impossible to get prescribed now that there are several UK liothyronine products. However, any pharmacy can contact specials importers (there are several) and set up an account and order - if they are confident about getting paid.

Mind, I am rather surprised you are getting Ace Cytomel!

Cynomel is French and is made by Sanofi here in France.

Exactly 😊, I was on French Sanofi Aventis 25mcg for many years in UK trying to save our National Health Service (NHS) money but it became unavailable post Brexit. After a battle to retain my NHS prescription, a super pharmacy was able to fulfil handwritten General Practioner (GP) prescriptions with ACE the only 25mcg version now officially available in UK.
