re High Cortisol

morning everyone, I’m still waiting for my Endo to recommend further testing for cortisol levels. Looks like mine are high, do you have any recommendations for supplements to help lower levels? My diet is pretty healthy so I don’t think I can do it through diet.

This is purely anecdotal but I'm sure there is research out there on it.

I use a cold water plunge pool now to help regulate my cortisol. If ever I start feeling 'fizzy' and overwhelmed and like I can't calm down, I get in the plunge pool.

But I also use it 2/3 times a week generally and have noticed a big difference in my overall wellbeing. Annoyingly. 😂

Depends when it is high. Is it high all through the day?

It’s higher around 8pm onwards, about time the cravings kick in!

So, is it low the rest of the day? If so, that would sound like standard Adrenal Fatigue and the trick is to raise it in the early morning, rather than reduce it at night. If it's higher early morning it will automatically be lower at night.

What do you crave? If it's salt, give in to it! The adrenals need a lot of salt.

it’s a bit high in the morning sort of top of the range. I crave salt and sweet one after the other then on repeat! I have the fat behind my neck which is typical for high cortisol I think?

High cortisol suggests thyroid levels not optimal

adrenals try to compensate for low thyroid levels by increasing cortisol

Do you have the results and reference ranges for your cortisol? It would help if you also had the time that the saliva sample was produced.

Cortisol has a circadian rhythm that changes the levels as the day goes on.

I have had high cortisol in a 4-part saliva test, but not recently. In my case three of the samples were over the range, and the only one in range was about 90% through the range.

I have been taking Holy Basil for years, which is supposed to reduce cortisol output, and it works for me. I buy specifically this product, although it is well worth shopping around. The price can sometimes change wildly :

I currently take 2 capsules every night before bed.

.

I know that some people take ashwaghanda to reduce cortisol. Sadly I couldn't take it, it made me feel sick.

.

I suggest you do a search for "supplements to reduce cortisol" and see what comes up that appeals to you.

I don’t have any recent cortisol full day tests to show. I just have all the symptoms of high I think. My Endo sending me for tests. Thank you for the info on supplements

I guessed my cortisol was low before I discovered that my cortisol was actually over the range. I have read in various places that confusing the symptoms of high and low cortisol can happen quite often.

I treated myself with adrenal supplements for low cortisol for a couple of weeks before I found out the truth about it being high. It was a disastrous experiment, and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone else.

Please be sure your cortisol is actually high before trying any supplements.
