petrified!

I have a raised TgAb of 541 - I’m absolutely petrified that I have cancer. Every other result was in the normal range. Please can someone reassure me 😢

I'm not sure why that would mean cancer? Unless im missing something? it means you have Hashimotos. Can you post your whole set of bloods and then the moderators can look at them for you.

One of the experts will come and give you some better advice than me however, please don't panic. The elevated antibodies mean you have an autoimmune condition called Hashimotos. Your TSH is a bit high but in range and your T3/T4 are low but not out if range. I doubt your GP will do anything more at this point unfortunately. Have you spoken to them? You need a dose increase

Read all the info you can on here and find Out about your vitamin levels etc. Diet and lifestyle changes you can make which may help.

High TG antibodies confirms your hypothyroidism is autoimmune (hashimoto’s)

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/303....

Take these results to GP and request 25mcg dose increase in Levo

GP could arrange an ultrasound scan of thyroid

in reply toSlowDragon

Thanks so much. I googled it and it came up with cancer straight away so I started really panicking. Is there anything that can help hashimotos? Maybe increasing levothyroxine x

TG antibodies tend to reduce as dose Levo increases and TSH reduces

You know you need an increase in dose to 75mcg

Just got to persuade GP to agree

saw GP, was very reassuring and confirmed Hashimotos but didn’t increase levo so I’m going to make some lifestyle changes and cut out gluten and see how that goes x

Good news you are taking hormone and can tolerate it. Some cannot

T4 levels here are low in range and you look like you need more.

TSH is normally below 1 for people on here.

When are you seeing GP again ? If your not feeling right - push for another GP visit. Get folate/ferritin, vit D and B12 tested so you can supplement if needed.

Thyroid Levels can swing around at the start just to add to the complication

It takes time (months) to recover from underactive thyroid even once you start getting the correct amount of hormone. I found just keeping track of everything though - be kind and forgiving to yourself.

The people on here are amazing and have really helped me.

Keep posting - many doctors are not good at dealing with this.

Thanks so much. I have been back on 3 separate occasions to 3 separate GP’s and they all declined my request to increase my dose! Even though I still feel rotten 😞 I don’t know how I can get them to increase! My last bloods were 5 weeks ago. Am I within my right to request repeat bloods? X

Have you asked for it as a 'trial' as that sometimes goes down better.

Keep going back and dont give up. Its the squeaky wheel that gets oiled.

Point out your FT4 is only 18% of range.

Point out NICE guidelines suggesting a dose by this calculation:

1.6 x weight in kilos = approx Levo dose

It is 6 to 8 weeks between bloods as thyroid hormone T4 takes a while to stabilise. If you book bloods via reception it might squeak through? Try and gt vitmins b12,d and folate and ferritin as well

Forum wisdom say no meds before bloods just water and aim for 9am appointment.

At start low thyroid messed with my mental state. I am ok now.

Your autoimmune type so your thyroid is being attacked and it releases some hormone and swings thyroid levels around.

Many autoimmune types are better gluten free. Add celiac to list of bood tests. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

in reply toSleepman

Thanks so much!! I had a celiac test but it was negative however the GP did say it could be an intolerance as opposed to celiac. I’m going to call first thing tomorrow and ask to be seen asap, if not I’ll try and go private because it’s so frustrating that they don’t listen. Last time I went he said it’s all in your head and it’s health anxiety causing the symptoms x
