Good morning, further to my previous "excited" post at being medicated! Can you please advise me as to whether I should start off at 25 for 4-6 weeks (see how I go) before taking the 50? I've never taken this before & having read all the posts here it is very clear that "small & slow" is the way forward? I am 62 & weigh 140 pounds, GP kindly (very kindly) medicating me with these results:TSH 2.3 (0.3-5)
FT4 11.5 (7-20)
FT3 4.2 (3.5-5.8)
Thank you in advance π

50mcg levo is standard starter dose, subsequent adjustments are by 25mcg daily.
Iβd start on the 50mcg, then drop if I felt I needed to.
Some seem very sensitive to changes & do better to start on 25mcg. 12.5mcg increases.
Most tolerate 50mcg well. Important to retest 6-8 weeks after consistent dose. By 6 weeks dose has settled & TSH usually adapted. Initially the dose tops up levels but output can reduce (so levo replaces, not top up)
HiAround your age, after my thyroid diagnosis, I was started on an initial dose, 25mcg of thyroxine (Wockhardt). Unfortunately, this didn't agree with me so I was put onto Eltroxin which was fine. The immediate effect was life changing. Fatigue, headaches, sweats, insomnia, etc, all gone. Gradually, symptoms returned so the dosage was increased until my metabolism was balanced. Ups & downs with Hypothyroidism. It doesn't take much to go off kilter @ times. Covid messed my levels up. I'm currently suffering with long covid which returned about 6 months ago. You wonder, is it my thyroid or long covid? Anyway, enough of me. Take your GP's advice & start on the 50mcg. You should start to feel much better. If needed, they will increase/decrease the dose. It takes time to get into your system. Hopefully, you have a GP that works with you & listens. All the best.
Thank you so much for your reply π can I ask what happened to you when your meds didn't agree with you? I'm actually quite nervous!! Thrilled to be medicated though, hope you're well now x
Don't be nervous. You need to be well. It seems to be common for a lot of ladies @ our age to suffer with thyroid conditions. Wockhardt was fantastic for a couple of weeks. I started to feel better, hallelujah, but then my legs started to ache quite badly. I went back to see my GP & my thyroxine was changed. You should start to feel 'normal' once your thyroxine kicks in & it will be wonderful.
Ps since doing a simple technique to support the T7 I now feel a lot better and was at therapy today and no discomfort at all now which shows me the technique I've done for a few weeks for long Covid has been successful
hi. After Covid I lingered feeling unwell for some time however I go to a therapy called Springback, it will sound odd I'm sure but when working down spine very painful at T7 this was after Covid didn't have this discomfort before Covid
If you wish I can send link how the Springback deal with it, he is only one in Uk at this point so very fortunate it is local to me
Either dose is a small dose. You should do what you feel comfortable with. 4 weeks is probably plenty to then raise to the 50 mcg. You will find that you will go up and down over the years. Your thyroid reacts quickly to medication, so they can retest you. In the last year or so, I went from .137mcg, to .125mcg to my current .100mcg ! I was overactive after years of under active thyroid ! Testing once a year with your physical is needed, unless you have symptoms of over or under active. More women than men have thyroid disorders.
