I take T4, alternating days with 100 and 125ug. Also T3 15ug each day. All in one go at 5am (I set an alarm).
I know you guys have said consistency is key with T3, because it has a short half life. However quartering the tablets to get 15ug (3/4 of a tablet) is awkward.
So I was thinking, cogitating, wondering; if I take a total of 30ug over 48 hours, why would I not be able to split it into 3 x 10ug doses, taken 16 hours apart? Dose 1 at 5am with my levo, second dose at 9pm that evening, third dose at 1pm the day after? Day before a blood test split the 1pm dose to quarter tablet at 1pm and 9pm, do the blood test (home) at 5am, start again. Obviously I’d have to time the blood test on a particular day.
Thoughts? Give it a go, see if it works or don’t go near it with a 6 foot barge pole?

My pill cutter cuts them in half. Getting the teeny tiny half rotated so that is cut into proper rather than skewed quarters is not the easiest thing. Maybe I ought to try using my fine tweezers?
If you have a sharp pill cutter you should be able to quarter the T3 tablets and avoid all the time shifts...a few tiny crumbs difference won't matter.
And pick up and ingest any loose crumbs with a damp finger.
Keep the extra bits in a small pot to use in the next dose.
I did it that way for several months with no issues.
I'm all for keeping things as simple as possible.
But, you have to find out what is best for you as an individual
The visualization of the peak that happens 2 hours after a dose was accurate in practice for me. I realized I was falling asleep at 2 pm many afternoons… I starting splitting my second dose at noon and I regained my afternoons back!
For me, I think my low T4 made this split dosing more important (maybe) - as I had no base reserve, so when I dipped … I just passed out.
So my guess is if you space it out that much you had better have a strong baseline of T4 that’s converting well enough or else you will have times you are not covered by any additional T3 boost.
I currently take my whole 15ug at 5am when I take my levo. 16 hour spacing will be more frequent slightly lower dosing for me, so the crash is unlikely.
Also… was just thinking there are some people here who take big doses all at once… I can’t remember the biology of it… but I remember being able to relate when I thought of my bedtime dose. Because don’t forget that peaks and short half-life aside… it still has half its life to go in your body after : ) and T3 interacts with lots of other hormones and our circadian rhythm and all that… it is very busy at night working with your other night hormones… so it’s not all about the energy boost.
Was just thinking about it so thought I’d add this comment too.
I just reread your post… now I’m curious why you are thinking of splitting at all? Is it related to symptoms?
💡I get it now! You are already taking it once a day, so 16 hours is MORE frequent!
Yeah - that is interesting! Now that I get your question, and think that’s totally worth a try!
I can also 100000% agree with your frustration in cutting pills. I have just recently stopped splitting my T3 partly because I am so frustrated with the ones I pulverize when cutting, then having to fill the little pill pot with shards and bits. I split while I had the 2 pm napping problem … but I always felt the pill bits added a complexity … and now I’m taking two whole pills in the morning and it does feel simpler and easier.
just a thought, could you try it for a week or two before testing. See how you feel? Note any changes? That would tell you of it works for you. It reads like a steady dose.
Suck it and see, yes, that’s what I was thinking. For a couple of weeks as I have two, weekly, pill pots and sort my pills for a fortnight. Starting next week then. I need to set my alarms so I don’t forget the later doses.
