Stopping PTU During Pregnancy (Graves Disease)

Hi all,

I got diagnosed with graves disease in 2019 and after an initial high dose have been on a low one ever since. Got switched to PTU last July as we were trying to conceive (25mg) daily.

I am now 20 weeks pregnant 🎆 and my levels are slowly getting lower, although still in the normal range so they want to stop the medication completely.

I agree the medication should be lowered at this point but have concerns coming off it completely as my levels have sky rocketed in the past when they try to take me off medication completely.

My antibody levels are now apparently in normal range which is reassuring but I have no idea how long for as they were last done in 2019.

Anyone got any thoughts or experiences they can share?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello again -

Congratulations on your pregnancy :

I can't advise you on this but if your antibodies are ' gone and under the range ' could be your Graves has burnt itself out - it does happen - though you need to be off the PTU to know.

I'm sure you will be closely monitored throughout the pregnancy and trust all goes well -

I'm not sure I've read of anybody on here in a similar situation -

but have read of Graves being triggered while pregnant and the patient prescribed PTU and the pregnancy taken to full term without there being any further health issues to either mother or baby.
