They’ve only done the tsh this time (actually I think that will be the norm now), but strangely the return of my symptoms coincides with an NHS tsh test of 1.96 which is EXACTLY the same tsh result as Sept last year when symptoms returned and I asked for the test and then for a small increase from 50 to 75mcg. I’ve written to the Gp surgery and asked to trial a small increase again. Sitting here overthinking stuff…do you think tsh 1.96 is high enough to go up a bit further to 100mcg with levo? I hope this can all be done by text with the surgery instead of having to go in to talk to a gp who won’t have even looked at the message i sent today. Grrrrr. Chewing my nails off. I hate all this waiting and worrying and arguing my case. I wrote a message saying how the return symptoms and tsh reading of 1.96 are exactly the same as last Sept. when they gave me an increase then. Argggggghhhhh! I’m spiralling into panic mode!!

yes . it's quite reasonable to ask for increase with TSH 1.9 and symptoms . TSH at that sort of level could well be an indication of 'not quite enough thyroid hormone'.

if they say no .. just say "well, since you haven't tested fT4 ,how do you know what's going on with my fT4 level ?"

use this ... the shoe size analogy healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

plenty of recommendation here advising GP's to keep TSH between about 0.4/0.5 and 2/ 2.5 ... which means that it's perfectly ok to go as low as 0.4 /0.5 if that is what is needed to allow you to feel well . healthunlocked.com/thyroidu.... my-list-of-references-recommending-gps-keep-tsh-lower-in-range

Thank you tattyb! I’m in a. panic, but anxiety seems also to be a symtom for me too (that’s my excuse anyway!). It surprised me that the tsh came back exactly the same as last time i asked for a small increase, hopefully that will go in my favour - it seems common sense that that level of tsh seems to be my “tipping point”. I do wonder if that was my tipping point before I even started levo because when i was diagnosed CFS my tsh was over 2 or over 3 every time they tested because of issues i kept complaining of. I put on my note to the practice this morning that hypo symptoms coming back affects my CFS (probably cause it bit i didn’t say that) and my quality of life. Cheers for the links - if they make me have an appointment (to tell them exactly the same info as I wrote in the online request this a.m) I will have those to hand! Thanks again.

just remember ... it's your body .. you live in it everyday ... you are the best person to report on what's going on in it .... your observations are careful and methodical .....so trust your own judgement here and SOUND like you do ....and GP's will follow.

anyone who's been sent to play with the CFS/ ME fairies has had most of their self belief knocked out of them by a few yrs of gaslighting.

TRUST YOURSELF... you are right .

THANK YOU Sooooo VERY MUCH !!!! What you just said there has touched me and means the absolute world to me: I HAVE had all the self belief knocked out of me and definitely been gaslit at every turn, patronised and spoken to like a naughty child, made to feel thick and useless. And yes my observations have been “careful and methodical.” Makes a world of difference to speak to people who actually get it! I’m going to screen shot your reply and use it as my daily affirmation!! xxx

Thank you!!! I was just looking at my blood result on patient access and see they have altered the top end of the tsh normal range to 5.33 instead of 4.5. I was started on thyroxine when my tsh was 4.7…eek…hope they don’t start questioning the diagnosis…the rotten bunch of demonic gargoyles😈👿

don't worry , it doesn't work like that... a result is only relevant to the range it came with .

if you test on anothermachine calibrated to a different range then the resulting 'number' would also be different , eg if you got 4.7 [0.45 - 4.5 ]

you would expect to see something like 5.5 [0.3 -5.3] from the same blood sample tested on the different machine.

Same result in effect ie both show 'a little bit over range, but not much.'

Oh phew! thank you for explaining that. Being diagnosed with CFS and hypo/hashis (frying pan/fire) has turned me into a total car crash of a nervous wreck when having to deal with the Gp surgery!

Not what you're looking for?
