After I gave birth in 2006, I immediately had a “flare up.” My body ached , I felt exhausted and was covered in hives (rashes, welts, eczema). I was put on a Prednisone taper starting at 60mg. Throughout the time between 2006 and 2024, I have regular flare ups. I’ve torn two rotator cuffs, awoken to swollen hands or feet that cannot move (imaging shows calcium deposits). Hand and feet started off extreme pain, cannot use, swelling and once swelling subsided, a bruise. My eczema has been the same, painful red, itchy and bruised once it’s in the last stage. Eczema presents as welts and as hives first. All soft tissue, bones and muscle have chronic pain. Especially during flare ups. It happens on my spine as well. Lately, I wake up w/ horrible pain followed by burning painful rash on chest and sometimes it moves to my neck. I often feel like I just did a workout and need to rest. I sleep early. Hard time sleeping. Toss and turn due to pain. Try to move as much as possible throughout the day. Generally on my feet/active. CPTSD. Hysterectomy. Approximately 15 lbs. overweight.

Your rash could be an allergy, a fungal infection, a bacterial infection, or something else I haven't thought of.

I recently had a small rash that wouldn't go away. I tried some of the following, separately, not together, all with over-the-counter creams, no prescription required. If the cream made no improvement or the rash got worse I just tried another one.

In no particular order...

1) 1% hydrocortisone ointment/cream (steroid cream for allergy)

1a) You could also try pills for hayfever. They also help with other allergies.

2) Anti-fungal cream (clotrimazole)

3) Anti-fungal cream (Daktarin 2%)

4) Antiseptic creams/washes of the kind used in preparation for surgery containing chlorhexidine gluconate :

Savlon, Sudocrem or Germolene are all good antiseptic creams but there are others.

The last time I had surgery I was given shampoo, liquid soap, and mouthwash with strict instructions on how they had to be used beforehand to make me minty fresh (joke) for surgery. They all had chlorhexidine gluconate in as far as I can remember (although I'm not 100% sure about the mouthwash!)

Another thing I have found that improves my skin and almost got rid of my eczema completely is keeping my B12 levels high (top of range or over). I have to supplement with methylcobalamin with occasional use of adenosylcobalamin. None of the cheaper types of B12 does anything for me.
