Honestly none of the tests available are reliable or accurate. The best way to determine of removing dairy from your diet would help you to feel better is to try it.

Don’t bother wasting your money on tests that are not reliable. Do an elimination diet. Stop diary and use alternatives (plenty available in supermarkets) for at least two weeks a month even better than gradually introduce back in and see what symptoms you get. Normally stomach cramps and lose stools with wind and bloat. If you don’t get any symptoms it’s not lactose.

If it is then you can cheat if your out and can’t avoid dairy by buying lactase tablets from boots or other chemists!

If it’s not dairy try avoiding soy or gluten, two other irritants.

I second this. The only real way to know is an elimination diet.

Thirded! Most tests are not reliable and a loss of hard earned cash!

I was persuaded to pay £200 for one of these tests but when the results came through I realised that it wasn’t accurate. It was a known name from a “reputable” clinic but on the list of ok foods were ones I know I’ve never been able to eat eg onions, peppers, leeks, coffee all give me intense pain & disturbance.

The highly reactive foods were mostly ones I was eating most often without any reaction. Or ones I’ve never eaten!

I followed the recommended exclusion diet & was told to reintroduce suspect foods after 3 months but drop them if symptoms reappeared. But I didn’t have symptoms from the suspect foods so that didn’t work. I got no improvement in my general health either which is what I was hoping for.

I had already taken yeast, dairy & gluten out of my diet as I did have symptoms from them.

Save your money.

I’ve used York Tests in the past and was looking at a fairly comprehensive one yesterday by Regenerus.

As others have mentioned here, please do not waste your money on food intolerance testing. There is NO scientific evidence that food intolerance tests are working and results are NOT reproducible. IgE testing for allergies has been scientifically proven and validated. Food intolerance testing is based on IgG / IgG4 and claims that if you have high IgG levels you are sensitive to a particular food item. However, elevated IgG levels are a normal way of the body to respond to food, so using this marker is pretty much useless. The British Dietetics Association is also not recommending food sensitivity testing, as it is not reliable and you could end up unnecessarily restricting your diet based on flawed results!

The best way to test if you are sensitive to a particular food item, is to do an elimination diet. However there are pitfalls to attempt this without guidance, so make sure you are well informed before attempting this.
