Food intolerance test

After my last couple of posts, I have come to the conclusion thanks to all the lovely people in here that I should probably check myself for food allergies so I have ordered the smartblood food intolerance test (only the 1st step though)... Although I am almost certain I have no allergies it would be interesting to be sure. Now that I have ordered it I am quite nervous! anyone has tried it, and care to share their experiences?

Hiya. I completed and posted mine off on Monday from Blue Horizon. It was really easy and they have a quick video to ensure it’s done correctly which I found really helpful. Happy to forward the you tube link if it’s the same one as mine. Not sure who yours is from. I put my hand in warm water for a few minutes and did a few arm exercises to get the blood flow going and it worked a treat. Remember to keep your arm straight and downwards and the flow keeps going.

I read some brilliant advice on here saying don’t do a test towards the end of the week as it’ll sit around. Mine arrived Friday but I waited for Monday and sent it straight off that same morning to minimise any delay. I’ll post my results if it helps. Should get them in a few days. Am nervous and excited at the same time!!! Hoping I have given them enough blood!! Like you, anything we can do to help ourselves can only be a good thing 😊. X

thanks! mine is from smartblood. If it arrived today or tomorrow I will wait until Tuesday to do it anyway as it's bank holiday on Monday!

Hi BlackCat16

I was stunned by mine. I didn’t think I had any intolerances to anything. I thought maybe like people on here say, perhaps I may have a wheat or gluten issue if anything. I wanted to help myself so thought why not try.

It turns out I have a very strong (the highest level) dairy intolerance - goats milk, sheep’s milk and particularly cow’s milk. It’s the Whey and Casein. Found in diary but also things like breadcrumbs and crisps even! I also annoyingly had a mild intolerance to chick peas (I adore humous!) and Brazil nights. I ate 4 a day for selenium so had to stop.

The day after I found out I gave it all up and went completely dairy free. I have to admit I feel absolutely no different for such a strong intolerance 😂. Nothing at all. However I have noticed I am less bloated everywhere particularly my stomach so at least that’s a plus. I adored cheese. But actually I’ve found it ok.

The nutritionalist who phoned me as part of the package deal said to give it all up religiously for at least six months (due to the level of the intolerance) if not a year and slowly reintroduce one thing at a time then retest. So I’m going to try it. I’ve heard that when you get an intolerance as an adult rather than a child it’s more likely to stay with you. So I’m aware it may not go. I didn’t show any intolerance to gluten etc and I know that’s not an 100% accurate test for it but am bringing in gluten free options anyway to cut it right back.

Hope that helps. I was really glad I did it. Made me wonder how long I’d had the intolerance and whether it contributed to my thyroid downfall (leaky gut etc) x

That’s interesting!! I do not have a thyroid issue, but my grandfather has hyperthyroidism. I do have IBS-D and suffer from chronic headaches, fatigue, and weight loss. I’m a 28yo female in the US. The only thing i have ‘thought’ caused the ibs was tomatoes..but I’ve eaten some after not having them for a few months and no issue..but maybe i had built up a small tolerance? Hmm..I’m excited to see what I’ll find! I’ll try to remember to post my results!

Oh..and I also love cheese!!!! Idk if I can give it up if it turns out I am intolerant! I guess there are a lot of lactose free cheeses and stuff now so 🤷🏻‍♀️ how did you give it up? I literally eat it almost with every meal!!

That’ll depend on what your intolerance is. I’m not lactose intolerant at all but still can’t eat diary because of the casein and whey it’s made of.

I was heartbroken when I found out 😂 but I’m amazed at how quickly I responded to giving it up. I think once you know something is hurting you it’s hard to ignore it. The day I found out, eating cheese just didn’t have the same joy. If that doesn’t sound too silly. It made me feel like I was going against my wellbeing. So I just stopped and explored all the dairy free options out there. Haven’t eaten out yet so goodness only knows what’ll happen 🙄😃 but I’ll work it out.

I had IBS for years before diagnosis. A major stress tummy. It’s pretty much cleared up since I changed my diet, took probiotics, went diary free and started on levothyroxine. Not sure which helped most! Probably all of them but definitely the levo. So it’s worth looking at your gut flora and trying to help it. I still get stomach problems but the IBS part is so much better. I’d really recommend everyone getting one done just to see. I’ll keep my fingers crossed you can still eat cheese 🧀😃🙏. Xx

I did a food allergy test about 5 years ago and results only showed a sensitivity to sesame. My wellness doctor did a test for me in February this year, after having intense issues with Graves disease, and it showed a sensitivity to eggs, most varieties of wheat, sesame, and cantaloupe (of all things).

When you rid your body of inflammation, often your blood no longer reacts to foods and the sensitivities subside. Being a nutritionist, I've seen a lot of people eliminate food allergies, but still we have to be careful.

I love eggs. And products made from wheat, too. But there are millions of other things out there to eat and I had to get serious about my health. Hopefully you won't have serious sensitivities. But if you do, just always remember how many foods there are to choose from and you'll be happy on your new, healthy diet plan!
